Mallrats 2

Kevin Smith‘s been a busy guy lately. He started working on a Mallrats sequel, and then he turned it into a Mallrats TV show. And then after that he decided to put proverbial pen to paper for Clerks 3, and develop that project as his next film, but soon all that was abandoned for the prospect of a new Jay and Silent Bob project, because it you’re just going through sequelizing the whole View Askewniverse, you might as well get to the point. To recap, Kevin Smith had a whole series of movies lined up for the next couple of years, and then he floated the idea of revisiting his second film, Mallrats, in a sequel. He did it via Twitter, so naturally everyone took the tease as gospel and ran with it past Excitedville all the way to Hype City. Of course, no one’s ever going to accuse Kevin Smith of doing the normal thing, or even doing what’s expected of him, or even on following through on his promises. Hey, remember when Smith was going to retire? No, neither does he, and he’s got a whole slate of movies on his plate to keep him busy through to the end of 2016. And then, last week, he teased about a new project. A sequel. Granted Smith’s been talking for long years about making Clerks III, but the new sequel idea he had was for another project, Mallrats. Now nearly 20 years after the fact, Smith confirmed, he’s ready to go back to the mall. (more…)
