“If I come out, are you gonna shoot me? Because then I won’t come out.”
Cobie Smulders returns as Maria Hill, and things continue to get worse for the former Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Question’s get answered, loyalties are tested, and massive secrets are revealed… but does the show maintain its run of excellence as we head into the finale? (more…)
If you’re the kind of person who reads Nerd Bastards on a regular basis, then the chances that you need to have the fact that Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a spin-off of last year’s Avengers film explained to you are rather slim.
However, it’s more than just geeks that watch TV, and while we represent a sizeable demographic–especially where TV viewers are concerned–ABC and the makers of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. are wise to be doing what they can to market their new series to a broader audience.
This new promo features a voice-over from Avengers star and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. guest star Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill. She does her best to tie together the plots of the movie and the TV series….Observe:
The S.H.I.E.L.D. television show is in the process of filming and many of us are looking forward to seeing what it brings to the world of TV super hero/comic book-ness. We already know that Agent Coulson will be making his return from the dead on the show, though some are curious whether other movie-cast S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will be making appearances or not.
One of the agents in question is Agent Maria Hill, AKA Colbie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother). She showed up The Avengers and will be continuing to weave her way through the Marvel Universe in the upcoming Captain America sequel, but will she be showing up on S.H.I.E.L.D. TV as well?
In an interview with I Am Rogue, Smulders had a few things to say about her role as Hill, including whether she’d be able to get away from current gig to jump on S.H.I.E.L.D.:
The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.
And whether she really wants to continue in the role, jumping from movies to TV series for potentially the next decade or so:
Oh yeah! I’m very excited. I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.
There you have it folks. If you’re an Agent Maria Hill fan, look forward to seeing her pretty face in more than one future Marvel project.
Check her out in Captain America: The Winter SoldierApril 4th, 2014 or wait and see if she ends up in S.H.I.E.L.D. come the predicted airing date of this fall.
Joss Whedon‘s Avengershas been referred to more than once as the anti-Dark Knight. That is to say where Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is, well, dark, The Avengers is a flashy, uplifting, and a fun romp of super heroics. Luckily they chose to focus on that upbeat tone in The Avengers because other wise we could have gotten this,
That’s a clip from an alternate opening scene for The Avengers that’ll be available as a bonus feature when it releases on DVD and Blu-ray September 25th. Kinda of whole different movie after that, isn’t? I wonder if The Avengers would still have been the mega-hit it was had they approached the film from the angle of Maria Hill’s (Colbie Smulders) flashback during some post-climactic battle briefing? Hmm, things to ponder.
Also included in the deluge of bonus material available on the DVD/Blu-ray – so much material you have to wonder what’ll be left to surprise us – is a clip from a feature about Robert Downey Jr. and how he was the ring leader behind the scenes, rallying the cast and crew to make The Avengers into that smash hit.
I’m still adamant RDJ really is Iron Man. In the sense that Iron Man wouldn’t be the hit character for Marvel he is today if it wasn’t for what RDJ brought to the role.
The Avengers will be available to own – legally, anyway – September 25th.
Superheroes basically dominate our pop culture right now. They’re everywhere! In our movies, on our televisions, on our clothes, in our food! They’re taking over! Good thing they’re the good guys, right?
While, yes, The Avengers is going to blow up the superhero scene there’s still Iron Man 3 on its way. Iron Man 2 may have been a bit of a letdown, but there are still high hopes for a third solo outing for Tony Stark. Reports are they’ve begun set construction on their first location in Wilmington, North Carolina, so hopefully this means filming can start soon! The info comes via ComicBook.com, who are also reporting on the movie’s working title,
Iron Man 3 is currently in pre-production under the code name “Caged Heat.” Comicbook.com has reporters on-site in Wilmington, North Carolina where Iron Man 3 is scheduled to film at EUE/Screen Gems Studios. We’re hearing reports that set construction has already begun. As far as filming, we’re still hearing the target for initial filming will be very early May (with a possibility of late April). Even though Iron Man 3 has been officially announced as filming in Wilmington, the code name “Caged Heat” is still being used by various sources in the local Wilmington film industry.
Ha! Caged Heat. That’s a funny title, can they just keep it for the flick? As a tagline maybe? See, the cage is the Iron Man suit and, oh, you get it? Okay…
Call me crazy, but I’ve never thought Cobie Smulders was smoldering. I think the How I Met Your Mother star is funny and has a rockin’ bod, but her face… I hate it. Like literally, I hate her face. On HIMYM shes always making the weirdest “I just farted” kind of faces. It drops her from a 10 to a 6 in my opinion. Of course, I’d be lucky to even dream of 6, but in regards to her being a sexy-brunette-vixen in Joss Whedon’s Avengers, it’s a little hard for me to buy.
Smulders is playing Maria Hill, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D in Marvel’s upcoming tentpole super hero extravaganza. In a recent interview via Vulture the actress discusses her sex symbol hopes and divulges a spoiler about her character. Below is an excerpt from her interview.
You’re also getting into action with Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. Before he cast you in that, he said he was considering you for a Wonder Woman project. So he’s clearly a fan. Did he ever tell you why?
No! If he did, I would throw up in my mouth. I mean, the Wonder Woman thing was a very kind comment, I think. I was never in touch with studios about it or anything like that. But we had so much fun shooting [The Avengers]. We had days when it was just us working — and, oh, 200 extras — but, you know, in the inner circle, it was nice to sit by the monitor with him and watch him take on this ginormous project with great ease.
You’re not a superhero in the movie, but you do have sick costumes?
I do. They’re very sleek, and very leather. And she has superpowers and is hyperintelligent; a very nice, fine woman who has all the answers.
Sounds like this role might turn you into the sexy-brunette-vixen type.
You know, fingers crossed! If I can be seen as somewhat sexual, if only to my fiancé, after having a child and turning 30, I will be happy for us.
Provided Smulders doesn’t make any fart faces in her scenes I think she’ll pull off the sexy-brunette-vixen just fine. Now, on the matter of superpowers. That’s either a mistake or a big departure from the comic book as Agent Maria Hill has never had any superpowers. However, we did report a while back the efforts of an over eager IMDB copy writer who listed her role as both Maria Hill and Anelle, Skrull Princess. That means nothing of course, IMDB cast listing are never reliable. However, the Skrulls -a shape-shifting alien race that invade earth- have been thought to be villains in the Avengers ever since the flick was first announced. We still don’t know if the Skrulls have any major play in the film, but the set photos and trailer featuring alien ships and hand guns certainly imply some sort of invasion. It’s gotta be the Skrulls. With the IMDB casting mention and this slip from Smulders, it’s likely Maria Hill is an alien double agent.
Movie spoilers can come from all directions these days, from the “on purpose” slip of a director or the “opps” of an on set picture making the rounds on the Internet, to the Internet movie database posting material a tad too early. Those of you that don’t want to know any Avengers spoilers should just stop right here. Those that really don’t care, go ahead and click through the jump.
[Update]: The Hollywood Reporterhas word that Smulders is in “final negotiations” to take on the role, a deal which has options for a number of future Marvel movie appearances. The Avengers is scheduled to start shooting in late April 2011.
Samuel L. Jackson was flapping his gum’s (No! That was not a racist joke. Jeez!) the other day on ‘Jimmy Fallon Live’ saying that his character Nick Fury would have a female side kick in Joss Whedon‘s ‘The Avengers’.
“I gotta screen test like five actresses on Friday. They have this new character that’s my sidekick or something, that’s with me all the time”
The Hollywood Reporter said the four actress’s testing for this ‘mystery’ role would be Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Serenity and is now seen on V), MaryElizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother).
Well, the female role is apparently for S.H.I.E.l.D agent Maria Hill and Cobie Smulder‘s (who certainly has a Smouldering body. Her face, not so much). has emerged as the front runner.
Whoa. Didn’t see that coming. Thought for sure Morena Baccarin, who previously worked with Whedon on Firefly, would be the top pick. However, Whedon is also chummy with Smulders. She was one of his top choices back when he was attached to the the live-action ‘Wonder Woman’ flick, way back in the day.
Supposedly Smulders has read alongside Samuel L. Jackson for the roll of Maria Hill. This is pretty much confirmed and an official statement should be coming soon. Here’s what Deadline had to say:
“I’m hearing that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders has emerged as the front runner for the role of SHIELD Agent Maria Hill in the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers and that a deal could be done before the weekend is out”
Hill is a tough cookie in the Marvel Universe. She’s been an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., a director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a major player in the Civil War story line and much more. It’s uncertain how much of her S.H.I.E.L.D history will play into the ‘The Avengers’ narrative. Most likely it will be at an earlier point in the characters career. With the over run cast, she’ll probably only have brief scene and all of two lines.
Eh, I’m not a fan of Smulders. I’ve seen her on ‘HIMYM’ and she’s terrible at comedy. My opinion could change once I see her in leather, acting like a bad-ass.
The Avengers will be released by Disney May 4, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and Chris Evans as Captain America. Bringing together ‘Earth Mightiest Heroes’ is, of course the beloved nerd saint, Joss Whedon.
