Master Chief

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

ABOVE: The dad that built the X-Wing bed from a few days back, just got 1-upped by the new father of the year… with his AT-AT bed construction. Damn, these kids are so damn lucky. Closet I ever got to an AT-AT bed or X-Wing, was a big empty box, a marker and a little imagination.  [ObviousWinner]

There’s a new live action trailer out for Halo IV directed by Tim Miller and produced by David Fincher. This just shows what could be if the powers that be would get behind a Halo movie. Looking back, one can see some great live action Halo trailers and fan films over the years that could easily translate to the big screen.

What you’re gonna see in this trailer:

Master Chief’s mind is violated by a powerful new enemy, who in searching for Chief’s weaknesses, finds the source of his strength.

There are flashbacks of Master Chief’s life that show an incredible world just waiting to be explored on the big screen. I’ve enjoyed the game over the years, but when talk of a Halo movie came up in conversation I would nod my head, but be thinking, “Yeah just what we need, another crappy video game movie.” After watching this trailer I’ve changed my mindset.

What do you think?

The story of Halo is one that just keeps going and going, and with good reason.  This series gained such popularity that it became iconic in the world of Xbox gamers.  No doubt Microsoft and 343 Industries will continue to turn out sequels until the Halo Franchise gets bumped by some hotter, more innovative title or until they create an ending to the game that angers and alienates their fan base.

Until then, it’s onward Halo!  The latest installment, Halo 4, just got an official release date of November 6 of this year, which means fans don’t have long to wait to get another chance to play gun-tag with Master Chief.

In a recent press release from the overlords at Microsoft and 343 Industries, they had a few things to say about what to expect from the next chapter.  First of all, Halo 4 is to be set four years following the third game and will feature Master Chief (as always) coming back to fight an evil that threatens the universe.

Halo 4 is supposedly the start of a completely new arc which 343 will be using across future installments.  So, needless to say, they don’t plan on stopping work on the franchise anytime soon.  Also, Microsoft’s corporate VP had a bit to say about how awesome the game is going to be, how cool the Xbox is and how fans will worship at their feet (last part implied, of course).

If you happen to be reading this on time, there’s an added bonus:

Conan O’Brien is doing a special Halo segment on his show tonight to celebrate the release date being announced!  This might be worth watching (personally, I love the Conan), so tune in if you get the chance:

“Conan”, TBS, 11pm Pacific / 10pm Central.

Check out Conan’s website for more info.

If you’re looking to lose long tracks of time might I suggest taking up a simple diversion. For me it’s alcoholism but I’m at my day job and the suits get annoyed when I drink I sing Night Rangers ‘Sister Christian’ while smashing empty whiskey bottles against the wall, pfft, suits. Luckily one of the greatest YouTube channels ever has entered it’s 2nd season, Epic Rap Battles of History is back!

They just dumped Leonidas vs Master Chief on the internet so ff you ever wondered who’s got better skillz hit the jump and find out.

We’ve featured before the video of 100 Ways to Die in Skyrim, now we’ve got a video of 42 Ways to Die in Saints Row: The Third. If you like watching people bite the dust in video games it’s your lucky day, there are some phenomenal deaths in here. Like being juggled in the air by explosive rounds or being smashed in the head by a mace. Good, wholesome stuff. (TDW: Geek)

Live-Action Halo Film Under Way?

The Halo movie, that that of The Hobbit (which actually just started filming recently), has been stuck in development hell for many years.

But, fans may begin holding their breath once again, as new pictures have surfaced online on the Machinima.com Facebook page. Machinima is the website currently airing the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries, so could it be they’ve snagged another hot property?

Now, no other details have been given yet. So, it could be another project akin to the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film, which was used to drum up studio interest in the franchise.

Check out the pictures below and give us your thoughts on what this mysterious Halo project could be.

Geek art can be very cool, especially when it is accessible to everyone (not just geeks).

Artist Kody Christian has created a bunch os posters showcasing popular comic book and video game icons using words within their shapes (known as “typography art”). Christian created tributes to such characters as Superman, Super Mario, Master Chief from Halo and more!

You can visit his Society6 pages here to view all his art and even order prints of each of the posters as iPhone cases, t-shirts and more!

Check below the jump for all the different works of art he’s created. Personally, my favorite is Pac-Man, as it just seems to lend itself to typographical art, doesn’t it?

Which is your favorite?

Have any of y’all made a New Year’s resolution for 2011? Do they happen to be video game themed resolutions? I got a couple that involves me whoring more trophies than I usually do so that I can show off a bigger e-penis to whoever wants to look at it (please look at it).

The always funny folks at Dorkly set us up with seven known video game characters and their New Year’s resolution. From the Master Chief pictured above to Solid Snake, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog and the silent Gordon Freeman, each character’s resolution fits well and bound to make you laugh (or at least chuckle).

So click the jump button to check the funny resolutions out and see if any of them will inspire you to make your own New Year’s resolution. Who know’s, maybe the one that has something to do with a bird that’s angry all the time will encourage you to have less nerd rage for the new year.
