Gal as Wonder Woman

You may recall that just a few days ago, filmmaker Michelle MacLaren walked away from the director’s chair on the upcoming Warner Bros./DC Entertainment live-action film version of Wonder Woman. Citing the ambiguous rationale of “creative differences,” which is about as old an excuse as it is mysterious, MacLaren’s departure from the project could be viewed as a black eye for a production slate of DC Comics-based films that has been struggling for years to come to fruition. With a 2017 release date etched in stone, the studios had to move quickly, and they have. Now, Wonder Woman has a new director, and she is also no stranger to trying to make comic book movies work despite “creative differences.” (more…)

Gal as Wonder Woman

Well, this was almost sadly inevitable, and things were going so well for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment with Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice coming out in less than a year, and Suicide Squad building some solid hype now that productions begun… As of this morning though, there’s news that there’s now trouble in paradise, or rather on Paradise Island. The long suffering superhero franchise in waiting, Wonder Woman, must now endure another setback, and it’s an old story if you’ve been following along with the seemingly decades long attempt to make the Amazonian princess into a big screen action star. Sadly, the search for a director is on again with Michelle MacLaren out of the job. (more…)

Marvel may be out there releasing dates and information about their up and coming movies for the next 100 years, but DC and Warner Bros. have been mum about most of their newest summer blockbusters. So much so, that it looks like despite the big announcement about bringing her to the big screen, recently announced director Michelle Maclaren says Wonder Woman hasn’t even been  given an official green light yet. So the amount of faith invested in Warner Bros.’ handling of its DC Comics properties can be measured in a thimble, but that’s not to say there’s no hope at all. As Warners gambles on Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice to establish its own expansive and interconnected universe in one ambitious movie, they also have several follow up projects scheduled for release in 2016 and beyond. One of them, of course, is Wonder Woman, who, as we already know, appears in Batman V. Superman. The solo Wonder Woman film based on the comic about the powerful Amazonian warrior now has a star (Gal Gadot), a director (Michelle MacLaren), and a release date (June 2017), but what it still lacks is a script. Good thing then that the studio is reportedly working on six of them. (more…)

Some of Hollywood’s best have tried and failed to make a Wonder Woman movie. For some strange reason, producing a film about the world’s premiere female superhero has been tougher than making one about a guy with a flaming skull head, or the Norse God of Thunder, or a crew or space pirates that includes a walking tree and a talking raccoon. But progress is being made. Wonder Woman will appear as one of many characters to come to life in the upcoming Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and shortly there after, Gal Gadot will launch the Amazonian warrior in her own solo adventure. As we reported a couple of weeks ago, Michelle MacLaren will direct her, and now, reports are saying that Pan writer Jason Fuchs will write the script. (more…)

The Internet has been busy at work trying to figure out who shall be the person to take on what is one of the biggest-deal super hero projects ever made – Wonder Woman. As it happens to be the first big-screen adaptation of this character and the first female-centric flick of the new generation of super hero film fandom, Warner Bros. it taking great care to make sure they do everything just right. And the beginning of said journey is, of course, finding the right person to direct it. Many names have been tossed about, but now an official announcement has confirmed exactly who we shall see sitting in the director’s chair – Michelle MacLaren. (more…)

The search for someone to direct the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie seems feverish for something that was just recently announced and isn’t set for release until 2017. I appreciate that kind of prep work, but it just seems like an obsessive chase to me. Warner Bros. has no comment about their search for a woman to captain the Amazon’s movie ship. In my opinion, there are perfectly good ladies in the movie industry capable of flying this thing, but reports say that the studio is looking hard at Emmy winner and television workhorse Michelle MacLaren. MacLaren’s people also don’t want to talk about it. But we’re gonna talk about it. Right after the jump. (more…)
