Like the “average” summer movie fare, Pixels has good stuff and bad stuff. Like most films that want to be profitable and seen as a “hit” in the eyes of the public, the question must that must be asked is “does the good stuff outweigh the bad stuff?” If you’re an eager pre-teen movie-goer, a parent of an eager pre-teen movie-goer, or a thirtysomething who really digs some deep-reaching retro references, then Pixels is probably right up your alley. And if you don’t fall into one of those categories? Well, let’s just say that your princess might be in another castle.
It all started with a fantastic short Pixels back in 2010 by film maker Patrick Jean. Don’t worry if you haven’t seen it yet, we’ve embedded that short for you below. From there it quickly moved into development over at Columbia pictures and Happy Madison Productions. That’s right Adam Sandler and company are bringing this Pixel short concept to the big screen. Wonder Woman’s been getting a lot of press lately, and unfortunately, not always for the best reasons. The casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel sequel was met with a mixed response at best. Then there were those rumors of Diana no longer being an Amazon but another Kryptonian descendent, which thankfully turned out to be false. Oh! And then the CW scrapped their plans for a Wonder Woman television show. With all the recent bad news for Wondy, it’s nice to have a clip where she simply does what she does best: kicks butt. (more…)
