Mark Wahlberg has frequently been referenced when it comes to rumours about who will play the lead role of Nathan Drake in Sony’s upcoming Unchartedmovie. However, in a recent interview with We Got This Covered, the actor claimed that he was in fact ‘not attached’ to the movie, and that if he was, we would ‘know about it’. So, if it’s not going to be Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan Drake, who will be stepping up to claim the role? The mysterious and slow-moving progress of the elusive Uncharted movie continues to taunt us. (more…)
Sony’s film adaptation of Uncharted is being completely rebooted and they’re now starting from scratch with the newly appointed director, Neil Burger. The original director, David O. Russell, was given the boot after he proposed to fuck everything up by completely deviating from many central game elements and by wanting to cast Mark Wahlberg for the role of Nathan Drake.
Burger’s been involved with a fair amount of press in promoting the DVD release of his most recent film, Limitless. While remaining tight-lipped in regards to Uncharted, he has mentioned that the studio is in the process of writing an entirely new screenplay wherein the game’s plot will be prominently featured.
We’re re-writing the script from scratch, and I’m just jumping into that literally right now, about to close the deal and leap off. Until the screenplay is written you never know who’s going to be acting in it or not. But there are a lot of good actors out there who even look like Nathan Drake and who could do it.
Basically, Mark Wahlberg is definitely not a candidate and no casting decisions have been made as of yet.
Mainly we’re beginning from scratch and going back to the videogame… It’s really one of the most cinematic videogames, and one that has really developed characters. So, you know, there’s a lot of cool, really intense things that, if they work for the film’s story, I want to use them.
This says to me, “I actually want this movie to have some sort of foundation in the material on which it’s based.” Awesome! We’ll see if it actually happens that way.
About a month ago, nerds went ape shit over Mark Wahlberg being cast as Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film. While folks were crying that Nathan Fillion should be our Drake, I didn’t mind the news that much as Wahlberg seemed very excited about the project. Then, earlier this month, we got news how the plot of the movie has nothing to do with the video game and that it’ll focus more on a “Family Dyanmic” and that’s when I went ape shit.
Here we are a month later, we may have some news that may please most of y’all and also give us hope as Justin Richmond, the director of Uncharted 3, reveals some things about the upcoming flick. First off, it seems that David O’ Russell may have been misquoted about the film’s plot having a family dynamic as O’Russell gave Richmond a call on the matter and said that he had no idea what these folks were talking about.
Richmond then said that Wahlberg is no where close to being confirmed to play as Drake as it seems to be nothing but a Hollywood rumor. As for Nathan Fillion possibly getting the role as that’s what fans want, Richmond replied by saying “message received.”
So, was Wahlberg talking out of his ass that he is Nathan Drake? Was O’Russell’s interview with LA Times misinterpreted? Who knows? The world of internet is always full of rumors and movie plots can change within an hour. How do y’all feel about this news? Does this news give y’all hope for Fillion as Drake? A plot that may have something to do with the video games? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment.
