obi wan kenobi

Few scenes are as iconic as the first lightsaber battle in Star Wars: A New Hope. Darth Vader and Obi-wan Kenobi, arch-enemies, facing each other one final time. When later we learn of their true relationship, it makes that scene even heavier. Of course, it was the first scene of its kind and the choreography was… Lacking, to say the least. Especially when faced with the stunning work we see in future films. But fans over at FXitinPost decided that it could be … well. Fixed. They took the heart and soul of the scene and reworked into something that does better justice to what the scene could’ve been.

Word around the Internet water cooler today has Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry in early talks for a Star Wars film centering on Obi Wan Kenobi, the Jedi Master played by both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor. Rumors, hopes, and dreams of an Obi Wan spinoff movie have run rampant on the Internet for years, but now there is a glimmer of actual hope on the horizon. Daldy (Billy Elliot, The Hours) would be a fantastic choice to take on this fan favorite. Check out the known details below. (more…)

Just when Ben thought he was out, Maul drags him back in. Seriously, didn’t he cut that dude in half? It’s hard not to be impressed how the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels writers managed to bring back Darth Maul while keeping him so fraking cool. Now it looks like we’ll have a battle no one could have imagined back in 1999 as Darth Maul comes out of the desert to face his most hated enemy. (more…)

Amongst the army of swirling rumours about the future shape of Disney’s Star Wars Universe, few have been more intriguing than the prospect of a spin-off trilogy focussing on the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series, it was said, would take place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It would chronicle the journey of the young Jedi Knight as he picks through the wreckage of a collapsing Republic, eventually choosing his hermetic existence Tatooine. Disney never commented on the truth of these claims, although our slim hopes were encouraged by Ewan Macgregor’s apparent willingness to reprise his role. Today we got another hint about when we might next see Obi Wan, and it could be sooner than we thought.

While there have been plenty of rumors and speculation that Disney and Lucasfilm would get around to telling the tale of Obi Wan Kenobi’s self enforced exile to Tatooine as the personal protective shadow of baby Luke Skywalker, there’s no spinoff film on the Star Wars docket. All those years in the desert, there is certainly a story to tell there, perhaps more. Disney might not be thinking about a Kenobi spinoff, but fans sure are. Fans like Rich Williamson, who put together an interesting fan film trailer for a Kenobi movie, featuring actual footage of Ewan McGregor from his recent film Last Days in the Desert. (more…)

From casting rumors to potential locales to the barest hint of plot details, Star Wars Episode VII has been one of the most talked about movies in years, and with good cause.  The franchise that the majority of us love so much is finally returning to its roots and will feature the characters that helped us all fall in love with the Wars saga in the first place.  In addition to giving fans a new entry in our beloved franchise, Disney has also promised a few stand-alone spinoff films over the next few years and since the announcement, many have been wondering just what these spinoffs would be about.  Could we see a young Han Solo in a stand-alone flick?  Perhaps we will have the chance to watch a young Boba Fett grow into a bounty hunter that has a penchant for disintegrations.  Today, a new rumor has emerged that may give us a real answer.  We may have to wait a while to get any sort of hint from the studio but if the folks over at Making Star Wars truly do have a man on the inside, one of those spinoffs will focus on everyone’s favorite hermit, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The news of the Star Wars spin-offs is pretty much the staple of the Hollywood rumor mill lately.  Almost anyone who has ever been involved with the Star Wars franchise is being bugged about it, from the major stars to the fkn key grip.  In an effort to drum up something – anything – people are being asked their opinions on whether the characters they played in previous films should be given their own shot at a solo movie.  And the next on the media’s ‘To Bug’ list is none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi the Younger, Ewan McGregor.

In addition to mentioning that he’d be willing to come back if they needed him, McGregor had a few things to say about the potential of an Obi-Wan-centric flick (in this excerpt from an MTV interview):

I think it’s a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, ‘Episode III,’ before Alec Guinness [played Obi-Wan in the original films], there’s that period where he’s in the desert.

That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don’t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff. Could be quite exciting. I’d be up for it, for sure, of course.

While what he had to say isn’t necessarily a bad idea, is does red as the obvious and obligatory answer to said questions.  McGregor won’t exactly be hanging out in the writer’s room either.

Oh, media people, will you ever stop bugging these poor people?

Next up, MTV asks “Cantina Alien” about whether they’d like to reprise their role and what they feel a solo film about their character should encompass.  Or not…

Thanks to blastr for the heads-up.

Welcome back bastards-in-training, and prepare thyselves for another round of Star Wars news!  This time around there are no rumors to spread, however, so you’ll just have to deal with a couple videos and a little bit of commentary.  On the list for today – George Lucas clarifies his role as consultant, another installment of the ongoing and strung-out Lucas-Kennedy interview and someone asks Ewan McGregor if he’d willingly come back as Obi Wan for future films.

All this after the jump!

We’ve heard of this dude before! He’s the guy who legally changed his name to Obi Wan Kenobi in order to win $1000 from some radio station contest during the promo for Star Wars: Episode I.  The name Benjamin Cale Feit is long gone… and only the Jedi remains.

Except the Jedi can’t seem to control his landspeeder.  Dude created a 5 car pile up and then peaced the scene.  It doesn’t help that he was already wanted for petty theft and probably doesn’t even have an actual driver’s license.  How the hell are people supposed to take him seriously if he’s completely failing at being awesome?

Was it worth the $1000?  It doesn’t look like it from that side of the iron bars.

In closing, I must quote Geekologie here, because it’s brilliant:

The dark side: it’s a slippery slope. No word if any Sith showed him their lightsabers while in the clink, but if it was anything like the last time I was there, TONS OF EVIL PEEN.
