Oz-The-Great-and-Powerful

If you’ve seen the Oz: The Great and Powerful trailer that dropped during the Super Bowl, you know that Sam Raimi’s latest brainchild is looking real pretty at the very least.  With less than a month to go before release, the folks in charge of marketing are hitting us with two more trailers.  They looks a little bit similar (as is par for the course), but they do manage to add a little bit of story lure to all that pretty.

Check em out below:

Oz: The Great and Powerful will be coming to a theater near you on March 8th.

Thanks to ComingSoon for the heads-up.

“I. Am. In. Oz” – Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell, actor, director, writer, producer, chin killa’ is one of the most charismatic cult figures of all time. That dude has been awesome for 30+ years.  Of course, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. You’re a geek and you love BC (GTFO if you don’t)! What you may not know about the Sultan of suave, the chin of chins, is that he is confirmed for a “pivotal” role in Sam Raimi‘s  upcoming Oz the Great and Powerful. You may recollect that BC has starred in a number of Raimi flicks. Though Campbell hasn’t actually been the lead actor in any of Raimi’s movies since Army of Darkness, the filmmaker loves to give his friend bit roles, be it Liam Neeson’s final disguise in Dark Man or the multiple parts in the Spider-Man franchise.

Anyway, Campbell has announced via his Twitter account (if you’re not already following him you really need to rectify that. Immediately) that he will have a role in Oz The Great and Powerful. The actor tweeted  “I. Am. In. Oz,”

There are very few details other than that at this time. Campbell tweeted. “Sam Raimi refuses to tell me what character I will portray. Just know that the role is PIVOTAL.”

PIVOTAL is my favorite character from Oz. Awesome! Joking aside, I wonder what the hell “pivotal” means. Perhaps the Tin-Man…or should I say “CHIN-man”? Well, whatever the hell he plays, he is the man, the myth, the Campbell. He’ll be awesome!

The film is staged as a prequel to the 1939 technicolor classic. The cast includes, James Franco “as Oscar Diggs, a magician/con-man who finds himself in the Land of Oz. Convincing everyone that he’s a great wizard, he has everyone entranced – everyone except for three witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams) who believe that he’s an imposter. ”

It seems that the upcoming Sam Raimi helmed flick, Oz, the Great and Powerful is gearing up to have some major players involved in its production.

Two of the main characters have reportedly been cast in the prequel to the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz. The super secret Oz script, reimagined most recently by playwright turned screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole; Inkheart), tells the story of the origins of the Wizard, and of Oz’s infamous witches like Glinda, who becomes the Good Witch of the North, and Evanorah, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the East (The one Dorothy dropped a house on).

According to Vulture, Black Swan star Mila Kunis has joined the cast as the future Wicked Witch of the West, Theodorah.

And not only that, but they are also reporting that none other than James Franco (127 Hours) has officially signed on as The Wizard.

What do you think of the casting rumors? Do you think Kunis and Franco can do the legendary parts justice?

The plot of the movie is described below:
