Wondering when Guillermo del Toro is going to finally get started on the next chapter of his giant robots versus giant monsters franchise, Pacific Rim? Ever since the first movie came out, people have been waiting for more. Del Toro was pretty adamant about the fact that he was going to continue with a second film and now it seems as if he’s finally getting to it. Scroll on to find out the latest concerning when they’ll begin shooting as well as a rumor about what the possible title will be. (more…)
It’s official: The sequel to Guillermo del Toro‘s kaiju/mecha megahit is set for release in approximately 3 years. (more…)
Though many would consider a follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim to be a no-brainer, the truth of the matter is that the movie just didn’t impress the production company enough to warrant them jumping right onto a second installment. There’s been plenty of talk of a Pacific Rim 2, but so far no definitive confirmation. Either way, del Toro is confident enough in the sequel’s approval that he’s been working on the script for some time now. (more…)
Considering the level of attention that Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim received back in summer of 2013, one might think that the production company that backed him, Legendary Pictures, would be eager to rush onto the next installment in what will inevitably become a major-dollar franchise for them. Alas, it appears as if that is not the case. For Legendary CEO Thomas Tull has come forward to say that Pacific Rim 2 is still a ways off as far as production goes. (more…)
It’s been nearly a year since the release of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. And though the movie didn’t perform quite as well as people were hoping, it did rake in some cash and give rise to the idea of turning the singular Kaiju flick into a fully-fledged franchise. Del Toro and co-writer Travis Beacham have been enthusiastic about a chance to do Pacific Rim 2 and now it looks like the CEO of Legendary Pictures might be on board as well. (more…)
The other day, we here at the NerdBastards (namely me) wrote a piece about Guillermo del Toro’s plans for upcoming projects. One thing on his list was a potential sequel for his latest flick, Pacific Rim. I say “potential sequel”, cause the first film still has about eight months before it hits theaters. Apparently, Legendary Pictures has said “screw it!” and plans to go ahead with the sequel regardless of how the film is going to do at the box office.
Screenwriter Travis Beacham has been asked to write up the new script. In case you don’t know, he’s the guy who did the treatment for the first one. He will, of course, be working hand-in-hand with del Toro. Assuming the director even has time to breath given his crazy schedule, that is.
So, folks, more giant robots are coming, whether you like the first movie or not. The problem is, most giant robot movies haven’t really done so well in the past. Then again, none of them have ever had such a great director and a huge budget. Let’s just hope they don’t turn this into a sequel factory in the manner that they’ve done with Michael Bay’s Transformers or we shall have one more mediocre franchise plaguing the world.
Thanks to GeekTyrant for the heads-up.
