X-Men

We have information regarding the rumors about a live action X-Men TV series that Fox have been toying with. Initially, the problems with Marvel Studios owning the rights to some of the characters had us believing it was what it was: a rumor. As the pragmatics behind putting a show into production based on characters who are tied in a political ‘who-owns-what’ battle seemed like too steep a hill to climb for the network. However, talks have been had from both sides and it is looking slightly more probable now. (more…)

Was it only a few months ago that the future of Star Trek was riding on one Roberto Orci? After co-writing two volumes of “Nu Trek,” Orci got the call to direct the third after J.J. Abrams left the series make some small independent feature at a tiny production company. That’s a lot of faith in a guy that’s not got a lot of good will banked in the fan community, especially after Star Trek Into Darkness, and it seemed as though that someone at Paramount eventually agreed. Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has been hired to stake over the directing duties for Star Trek 3, and despite reports to the contrary, it seems as though the director’s chair isn’t the only one that Orci’s lost in the reshuffling. He co-wrote a screenplay featuring a giant robot scrotum with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. He helped load The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with so much plot detail that they barely had any room for a story or character. He participated in the silly is-he-Khan or isn’t-he debate for Star Trek Into Darkness. He’s the most divisive screenwriter in Hollywood, and now Roberto Orci is crowing that he’s finished the first draft of his follow-up to STID, putting the flick on track for that important and symbolic 2016 release date. Flash Gordon may be one of the the 20th century’s first science fiction icons and an inspiration for George Lucas when he created his own space opera, but most are familiar with the guy from that rather cheesy 1980 movie with a kick-ass soundtrack by Queen. (FLAAASH! AHAHHHH!) That Flash Gordon is a cult classic, but not necessarily the on screen adaptation the character deserved. Which is where Star Trek 3 writers, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay come in, as the two are rumored to be working on a script for a reboot. (more…)
