When Johnny Depp created the persona of Captain Jack Sparrow in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, his inspiration was a rock and roll pirate in the mood of Rolling Stones’ member Keith Richards. Richards then returned the compliment by appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, as Keeper of the Code Captain Teague, who also happened to be Jack’s father. But Richards is about to be joined in the Pirates franchise with another member of rock royalty, and now you can see Sir Paul McCartney is full pirate mode, as he’ll appear in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales(more…)

It’s a well-known fact of movie lore that when Johnny Depp first portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, he modeled his performance on Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richards. Richards himself would repay the compliment a few years later appearing as Sparrow’s father Captain Teague, the Keeper of the Code, in At World’s End and On Stranger Tides, the third and fourth Pirates movie. So with that tangential connection between a major Disney franchise and the British Invasion of the 1960s, we’ve learned today that one of the surviving Beatles will be making his way to the Caribbean to play pirate with the cast of Dead Men Tell No Tales.
