The Ghostbusters reboot is currently underway. Director Paul Feig has been keeping the public informed on all the changes that are occurring as of late, creating a lot of controversy through the pre-production progression. With original cast members split on the project (Bill Murray being all for it, and Ernie Hudson being against the sassy girl-power remake), the line of demarcation couldn’t be any more noticeable.
Now, the news just in, is that Feig wants to make a hard reboot with real scares as well as the all girl-power humor – all whilst retaining the coveted PG13 rating. Feig talks of his plans in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, and it might have fans of the original banging their heads against the proverbial brick wall, or taking to their keyboards to hurl all kinds of profanity-ridden-abuse towards the Bridesmaids filmmaker. If you get violently angry when you see Christmas commercials and decorations before Thanksgiving, then you might want to just skip this new Christmas themed trailer for The Peanuts Movie that won’t be out until next year. If you can handle a little Christmas before Thanksgiving, then you should check this new trailer out. It looks like Blue Sky Studios has captured the spirit of Charles Schulz‘s much beloved Peanuts. November 23rd is less than two weeks away, and in these 11 days leading to the Doctor Who 50th anniversary we here at Nerd Bastard’s want to share with you a few of our favorite Whovian things. Mashups have reached new heights of popularity thanks to the internet acting as a veritable melting pot of pop culture. Nothing can escape it, not even Doctor Who. Here to celebrate being only Sylvestory McCoy–er seven days away from the premiere of “The Day of the Doctor” are seven of our favorite Who mashups. (more…)
Season 3 is coming – this weekend! It’s been nine months since we last saw the struggle between the noble families of Westeros as they fight for control of the Iron Throne, and things are looking quite grim for the people beyond The Wall. In preparation, we’ve picked some of our favourite pieces of Games of Thrones fanart from around the net just for you, so until Sunday rolls around lets all enjoy!
Above: This how a lot of people are hoping Game of Thrones ends once the books are finished and the series is filmed, TyrionLannister on the throne. Bobby Chiu, one half of imaginismwith KeiAcedera, thought so anyway and put together this perfect representation of the true king. He even recorded the entire process start to finish. [Deviant Art]
Good grief, winter is leaving. Adams Pinto put together this awesome Peanuts/Game of Thrones mash-up, originally for sale on t-shirts, but we wanted to show it off while not on someone’s body. It might not be available anymore, but at least it looks nice. [The Mary Sue]
The stuff of northern legends, White Walkers are the one race that could frighten even the toughest of men, and Caner Inciucumakes them look awesome. Accompanied by a pair of Wights, or zombies, their icy blue stare makes everything a bit creepier. [Deviant Art]
This isn’t the throne you’re looking for, it’s a bit more explosive. Created by Styerd in a piece called “Game of Clones” this Star Wars/Game of Thrones mash up is pretty dang cool, but even with all those blasters that trooper couldn’t hit the broad side of an Imperial cruiser. [GeekTyrant]
Light and shadows make anything cool in the right light and Robert Ball nailed it with these Game of Thrones head shots. Featuring several of the cast in a series of light and dark shots is a clever way to show both sides of a character. Needs more Hodor, but we have that covered. [The Mary Sue]
You simply can not do a Game of Thrones art appreciation with out Brandon Stark and Hodor featured at least once. This very Calvin and Hobbes styled drawing by Joel C. GIll shows off one of the finer points of the series. Sure, he only says one word, but if he could speak more he totally would. [Roaches Have Wings]
While we can’t got to places like Winterfell or Dragonstone, considering even with our technology we’d be screwed, at least we can show off our favourite locations at home. These Game of Thrones location posters created by Harshness are great ways to show off the size of some of the Seven Kingdoms’ nest known locations. [The muffled sounds of SCIENCE in the distance]
There’s not really much that we can say about this without bringing up the shrouded past of Tony Stark and his history in Westeros. What we can tell you is that Zach Jordan really knows how to keep an Iron Man joke from dying. [Deviant Art]
DaenerysTargareyen doesn’t have time for clothing, she’s the mother of dragons and she’s out to rule. One of the finest 2D drawings out there, TeiIku’s art should be on one of the covers of George R.R. Martin‘s books. [CGHUB]
Finally, we apologize for the sheer size of this beast, but we couldn’t ignore joscomie‘s massive Game of Thronesanime scroll. Featuring 49 of the characters from the television adaptation all packed onto one giant scroll in a sweet Japanese anime style. What a great way to show off the scale and scope of the show’s production. Bring on Season 3! [io9]
You’re in 3D, Charlie Brown! Or at least, you probably will be in three years. After more than 60 years as one of the world’s most beloved franchises, Charles Schulz’s Peanuts is getting a big budget film adaptation.
The Interwebz, where nerd art runs wild. Oh, and they draw a lot too. Sure, sometimes it’s 50 new rage faces (please stop by the way) or pictures of ligers. Why is it always ligers?
Other times? Oh those other times… it;s fantastic and magical drawings that make the imagination soar and the geek spirit reach new heights.
It’s time for a Nerd Art Dump.
ABOVE: The next time you watch Masters of the Universe remember to see it from the other perspective. He-man wasn’t the big hero that he appeared to be on TV. He was actually just another muscle bound jock picking on poor skinny Skeletor, trying to make his way through the day. What a jerk. [Geek Diaper]
Hit the jump for a Doctor Who/Peanuts mash-up, Ghostbusters and MOAR! (more…)
Another Super Bowl has come and gone, and another batch of overly hyped but in the end, disappointing Super Bowl commercials have aired. I’m sure everyone feels this way but I swear the commericials when I was a kid were more memorable. Maybe now we’re all too old and jaded to see the fun in a million dollar advertising campaign.
But out of all the commercials aired this year only one seemed to pander to those of us craving some nerdy nostalgia. It was MetLife‘s commericial starring just about every cartoon idol from our childhood. All coming together to celebrate, uhh, insurance on some grassy hill.
I don’t really get it either. And bringing Voltron and Scooby-Doo into the picture doesn’t get me excited about life insurance.
What did you think of MetLife’s or any of the other Super Bowl commercials? Did you have a favorite?I think I liked the yogurt one with John Stamos getting head butted. I literally lol-ed.
Morning, bastards! Welcome to your first of many daily doses of Nerdy Bits!
Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut.
Monday through Friday, every morning, we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at email@example.com.
The successor to the Poke-bra, this Angry Birds bra gives each tit a distinct personality! (TDW: Geeks)
The Interwebz is a great place for artists to share their nerdy work, even though a lot of the time it’s stuff like Harry Potter and Voldemort poking each other with their “wands” and shit like that. There are a ton of awesome things to behold every day but we’re fuckin’ lazy bastards, so we just put it all together once a week to keep your mojos happy.
This week we’ll start off with some art nouveau pieces by Megan Lara, which are on sale here. These posters come in a set of four, one for each of the major women in Firefly and Serenity. Who doesn’t like themselves a purdy poster of a sexy space hooker, and then some?
There’s a lot of nerd art on the ‘net. Mostly it’s fan-fiction tentacle Pr0n but, hey, we’re not complaining! We see so much neato art work on a daily basis, but they don’t make it to the front page of Nerd Bastards for whatever reasons. We’re either lazy, or a piece of stand alone artwork isn’t enough to warrant a full post. Mostly we’re lazy. But who are we to rob you of this net glory? We’re bastards, but we’re not assholes. So, here’s a roundup of the latest nerd art: intended for eye masturbation purposes.
The Nerd Art Stock Pile will become a weekly feature from now on, so keep your eyes peeled for these every Wednesday!
We’ll start this week off with a piece by Will Murai, who explores the idea of Altaïr, the lead character in Assassin’s Creed, being a woman. It’s a great piece of work; this artist is obviously talented and knows his craft. And she’s pretty fuckin’ sexy. Obviously the entire point was to appeal to dicks all around the globe, a la Dead or Alive, but her outfit is extremely impractical for her line of work, and the stark contrast between Altaïr’s complete coverage and her lack of coverage is a bit ridiculous.
