Phillip Seymour Hoffman

The Hunger Games lit a spark, but its sequel Catching Fire is what will set the world ablaze. Performing better than any sequel in recent memory, Catching Fire gives audiences exactly what they want: bigger, better, and more. Director Francis Lawrence isn’t looking to reinvent the wheel with this movie, but it’s obvious special attention was paid to resolve the gripes made about The Hunger Games. The cast, Jennifer Lawrence in particular, all give exceptionally strong performances, clearly having grown more comfortable in their roles. Sequels are meant to satisfy our burning need for more of what we loved the first time around, and sometimes setup forthcoming sequels; Catching Fire does this all,  and then some. (more…)

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Director Francis Lawrence, is eying Julianne Moore for the role of District 13 leader, Alma Coin. The negotiations are still in the early stages, but Moore would be a fantastic addition to the already stellar cast including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, and Lenny Kravitz.

*****TURN BACK NOW****

The latest Catching Fire casting word about Hollywood is that Philip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.

Now this is all just Internet rumor so far, Lionsgate is giving everyone that asks a “no comment.” We have to admit that The Hunger Games is not really the kind of acting job that Hoffman usually goes for. The only big action movie franchise that this NerdBastard can remember Hoffman taking a role in is Mission Impossible III. Would this role be “meaty” enough for Hoffman to work out his acting muscles?

Perhaps Hoffman might appreciate a much lighter role as he ends his critically celebrated run as Willy Loman in the New York revival of Death of a Salesman. Not to mention that the payday for this role could fund many a personal project of Hoffman’s.

Plutarch Heavensbee is made the The Hunger Games Game-Master after the previous Game-Master Seneca Crane is executed by President Snow because of the outcome of the 74th Hunger Games. Heavensbee is later revealed as one of the leaders of the rebellion when he saves the tributes during the 75th Hunger Games.

This NerdBastard would like to see this rumor become fact, the film starts production in a couple of months and we’re sure to hear lots more casting news as things really heat up. It’ll be a long wait for the November 22nd 2013 release date for Catching Fire.
