Debuting online today is the latest trailer for the upcoming fourth film in the Pirates franchise, and I have to admit when I first learned of this film I wasn’t excited. To say I was let down by the third film, At World’s End, is an understatement. The movie ruined what I thought was shaping up to gosh darn great trilogy. Sure, Dead Man’s Chest was a little weak but produce a bang-up job on the finale and you’re golden. Apparently Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer didn’t receive that memo.

So, you’ll understand where I’m coming from when I say I’m cautiously optimistic for On Stranger Tides. The trailer, which you can view below, looks great and very neatly details the plot. No longer is Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) tagging along with lovebirds Elizabeth (Keira Knightly) and Will (Orlando Bloom), and thank the heavens because while they were phenomenal in the first picture by the third I couldn’t wait for them to drown. Directing this time is Rob Marshall who will hopefully inject some much needed life into Disney’s blockbuster franchise. Joining Depp is Penelope Cruz, I’m sure just the feisty woman we want to see Jack tangle himself with, and Ian McShane as the pirate legend Blackbeard. Reprising his role will from previous films is Geoffrey Rush, who I think we can all agree does his best to not make shitty movies, but this time he’s sporting British naval attire. Hmm, what would make a pirate join the navy? Plus, there’s a glimpse of Keith Richards again playing Jack’s dad, the highlight of At World’s End if you ask me.

When I watch the trailer I can’t help but get excited when the theme music plays, I’m really hoping this film captures everything that was great about the first. Watch below and tell us if you’re excited for Jack Sparrow’s latest adventure or are you afraid they’re beginning another unnecessary trilogy?

The Super Bowl is always filled with exciting moments, amazing feats and big laughs.

Of course, I’m just talking about the commercials … does anyone actually watch it for the football anymore?

The Hollywood Reporter has gotten it’s hands on the complete list of movie trailers that will air interspersed among The Super Bowl‘s bread and butter – commercials for boner pills and soda. The list is massive and looks like it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun.

Click below the jump to find out which movies will have trailers shown during The Super Bowl on February 6.

Also, late last night, /Film got an exclusive with X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn on how he felt about the “leaked” cast photo that appeared on the web some time ago. Long story short, Vaughn did not like the image as it looked like it was photoshop and as far he knows, it is not an official image from FOX.

To make it up for the fans and show that he is doing what he can and is not “bastardizing” the X-Men franchise, he revealed two photos. One photo has Michael Fassbender as Magneto, wearing the trademark helmet that I believe fans will approve of and the other image show James McAvoy as Professor X. Both images are available after the jump.

The captain is back and this time it’s a race to the fountain of youth in the fourth film of the ‘Pirates’ series, directed by Rob Marshall. Once again Starring Johnny Depp as our hero Captain Jack Sparrow and new characters to the series played by beauty Penelope Cruz and veteran actor Ian McShane. With new female  male leads added to the series it’s obvious that there’s Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, what a shame. Anyway, here’s your first look at ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides:

Mermaids, zombies and more Keith Richards! Catching glimpses of action, adventure and more witty one-liners from Sparrow this could very well be the be of the pirate films to date. Sure there’s no Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan but who really cares? It’s Jack Sparrow the ladies drool over and that’s just fine and dandy for everyone, especially Jerry Bruckheimer. Follow the classic formula that they’ve followed from the previous 3 films, from the exotic locations to it’s once again outstanding score, how can they top their predecessors? here’s the official plot synopsis:

“In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.”

Based off Tim Powers’ pirate novel On Stranger Tides, once optioned by Disney many years ago as it’s own film. It holds it’s own as a sequel, but is still able to be called it’s own individual movie entirely. This is a very strong and very well cut trailer to tease an audience with, a well thought through plan from Disney. Having lines like “It has begun, AGAIN!” from McShane however teases that this race to the fountain has happened once before. Not to jump the gun or anything but it could be that Sparrow senior took part in the last race to the fountain of youth, just a observation and a theory.

People will be dying to see this movie next May but until then they can only sit and watch this trailer on repeat.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will hit theaters on May 20th 2012.
