Since well before the development of Thor: Ragnarok, there were rumours about Planet Hulk. The fate of the incredible Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron left things very much up in the air in terms of the Green Goliath’s fate, and when it was announced that Mark Ruffalo – and Hulk himself – would be appearing in Ragnarok, billed as a space road trip movie, the rumour mill really started churning about how the film was going to incorporated Planet Hulk in some form. Well now form has become substance because Thor director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the road trip will be stopping off on Sakaar, the titular planet from Planet Hulk. (more…)
With production wrapping up for Thor: Ragnorak, director Taika Waititi shared a 15-minute video from the set of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film. The third Thor-centric film in the MCU stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston reprising their roles as Thor and his nefarious brother Loki. Also in the film are Mark Ruffalo, Idris Elba and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Newcomers include Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Tessa Thompson.
One of the films on the horizon for Marvel is the highly anticipated Thor: Ragnarok, which will end the trilogy of solo Thor movies. It’s been rumored that not only will The Incredible Hulk (as popularly played by Mark Ruffalo) be appearing in the film, but that a good portion of the film’s story will be adapted from the Planet Hulk comic story-arc, in which the Hulk becomes champion, and then ruler, of a super-powered gladiatorial planet in the far reaches of space. Well, something just arrived at SDCC that seems to confirm this story once and for all. (more…)
Thor: Ragnarok is still almost two years away from its release, but it seems like we’re getting a lot of news lately about what to expect from the film. Here’s what we know: Mark Ruffalo will appear as Bruce Banner/The Hulk and the plot will involve some kind of “road trip” in space. Here’s what we know that’s yet to be officially confirmed: Cate Blanchett will be playing the villain, likely Hela the ruler of the Underworld, and the plot may possibly be about her destroying Mjolnir. Now let’s take a real leap, as the internet gives us a rumor that’s particularly more difficult to swallow, that Marvel will somehow turn Thor 3 into Planet Hulk. (more…)
It’s been a rumor almost as old as the existence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the rumor that the Hulk would be going into space post-Avengers: Age of Ultron and will encounter the Guardians. This rumor has floated out there (in space) in a couple of forms, whether it’s a Planet Hulk movie where the Guardians would enter the story at some point, or whether it was Hulk leaving Earth at the end of Ultron and bumping into the Guardians somewhere in space, it was going down. Except no, no it’s not. And director James Gunn has said so again in an impromptu Twitter Q&A. (more…)

For the last several weeks, Marvel Comics has been releasing teases through press releases of promo art featuring different comic book stories from the publisher’s past, both from tales set in the prime Marvel continuity and those set in alternate realities. Most comic book fans and pop culture news outlets assumed that the teasers featuring such stories at Old Man Logan, The Infinity Gauntlet, and Armor Wars had some connection to the publisher’s 2015 Secret Wars comic book event. Marvel confirmed that assumption today with the release of a video teaser entitled Secret Wars: Battleworld Revealed!, depicting how Old Man Logan et. al form part of the larger tapestry of the Secret Wars story. When Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk on television back in the 80’s, he was the biggest dude I’d ever seen at the time. I thought he was perfect for the role and just ignored the hair. Now, for some reason, it reminds me of Dexter Morgan’s do’ and I can’t get it out of my head. With matching eyebrows that could bring down The Leader all on their own, the big guy had massive success smashing stuff in slow motion week after week. Years later, he’d expand on his good relationship with Marvel by appearing in their films. He played a security guard in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and went on to voice the character in the studio’s film incarnations. So, maybe he’s in the loop on their future projects. Maybe when he claims unsubstantiated plans for his former self, he knows what he’s talking about. Right? Right?? (more…)
The Planet Hulk movie rumor has taken on a life of its own on the Internet. Whedon, Feige, and Ruffalo can’t do an interview without someone asking about the possibilities. You can imagine then, what happened when an alien character species from the Planet Hulk storyline showed up in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy early production stills. You’ve got it. The Internet grabbed hold and ran like the wind with it. Gunn has commented about the subject before, but never with the vehemence of his latest attempt to smash the Planet Hulk movie rumor forever. (more…)
Since the closing credits of The Avengers, fans have been looking for more Hulk, at least the way he’s played by Mark Ruffalo. Despite the middling success of two solo Hulk movies, Ruffalo was so popular in the part that the people are eager for a third try, which wasn’t developed for Phase 2, but may very well end up on the books for Phase 3. (Discerning fans may note that Ruffalo popped up in the stinger at the end of Iron Man 3 but I digress.) So are we ever going to see another Hulk, and if so, what might it be about? New rumors abound as the title “Planet Hulk” has once again raises its head, and there may be some significant spoilage to make you believe it can happen.
Of course, if you don’t want to be spoiled, you have to the count of 10 to bail. (more…)
