It’s the worst kept secret that Netflix has changed the game of television, both on the side of the networks and on the side of the viewers. As TV viewers become more acclimated to binge-watching, on-demand, anytime scheduling, the major U.S. networks have scrambled to keep up by phasing out repeats, having year-round schedules of new programs, and, like a recent move by NBC, posting all episodes of a series to stream instantly. Given all that, and the ease and access of Netflix business model, observers are now saying that in just over a year, Netflix will have more viewers than NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox. (more…)

WINNING

The first half of ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ season one was crap. It was like watching paint dry with the hopes that the dried paint would be awesome. Then ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ happened. It changed the entire game for our spy friends, making them pariahs on the lam. Being hunted by Hydra was the fresh injection the show so desperately needed to stay above water. Still riding that storyline through season 2, the show has no movie plot to adjust its course. But AOS wasn’t out of marketing ideas just yet ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ is still several months away, but that didn’t stop ‘Agents’ from using the film’s hype to entice more viewers. Bad news for those who hate dragons, sex, dragon sex and/or dismemberment. It doesn’t look like Game of Thrones is going to be leaving HBO anytime soon, as a new ratings report indicates that the divisive fantasy series has officially become the most popular show in its history, beating The Sopranos, Sex and the City and everything else the critically acclaimed network has put into production.
