Even with Warner Brothers’ The Dark Knight Rises and Sony‘s The Amazing Spider-Man soon being unleashing into theaters, people are still talking The Avengers.

The Joss Whedon feature continues to break records months after it’s initial May 4th release, now becoming a $600 million dollar blockbuster!  That brings it’s global total to an astounding 1.4 billion, making it the 3rd highest grossing feature film of all time and also the highest grossing comic book movie ever.

It’s an amazing feat for such a film, even with a $50 million paycheck reportedly being netted by Robert Downy Jr. and his fantastic contract negotiators. But despite all these accolades it’s still only “phase one”, which means it’s time for the second phase of Marvel’s money-making production. This next step in Marvel Studios’ expansion of the multi-franchise might be a little much, but with everything set to be released over the course of the next few years instead of all at once, it should be easy to digest.

Currently being worked on are future sequels Iron Man 3, Captain America 2 and The Avengers 2 as well as the rumored Ant-Man, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy projects.  The future looks bright for Marvel and it’s films right now. In the meantime, The Avengers must surpass James Cameron’s Titanic and his blue alien love fest Avatar to take the top spot.  But given enough time, it could be done.

So if you’d like to see it cross that heavenly $700 million dollar marker you should head to theaters and watch The Avengers for what could be your eighth or ninth time. Be sure to pray to your Joss Whedon statue before you go in order to give it a little more meaning.

‘Harry Potter’ Breaks Opening Day Record

It’s the end of an era as Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Part 2 hit the theaters to a drove of wizard loving muggles and Warner Bros. is now rolling in the money. After setting a new midnight record with over $43 million, the Warner Bros. feature went to town, besting the previous record for a single day and opening day records of $72.7 million held by Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Looks like shirtless Werewolves and glittering Vampires will have to wait till next year.

According to ERC Box Office, the final film in the Harry Potter franchise has grossed $92.1 million in its opening Friday, that’s including the $43.5 million from midnight shows. If this keeps up it may even beat the current record held by Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight. Reaching $158.4 million dollars in three days. The Christopher Nolan anticipated Batman sequel has defended it’s position for the last three years against two different Twlight movies.

Even after removing the Thursday night midnight showings Harry Potter is still anticipated to have an opening weekend total in the range of $170 million. Looks like the Dark Knight fan boys are gonna be pissed.
