Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil Afterlife

Resident Evil fans already knew another movie was in the works, because love it or not, the Resident Evil movie franchise is a money-maker, and money makers get sequels. The good news is that the creative force behind the entire series of movies Paul Anderson, is still fully in charge of the script and about to get started on the yet unnamed Resident Evil 6 script. It seems like Resident Evil 6 is on like Donkey Kong (so to speak) after some initial suspicion that director Paul W.S. Anderson may be too busy with his passion project Pompeii to make Screen Gems’ already set release date of September 12, 2014. However, an interview with Anderson in The Toronto Star seems to renege that previous assumption as the director himself confirms that the film will move forward this fall.

Believable? Possibly. The last couple of Resident Evil movies have been shot in Toronto, which is coincidentally where Pompeii is shooting right now. As to why a story about a volcano eruption in Italy thousands of years ago is shooting in Canada, I don’t know, but that’s the way it goes I guess. As for Resident Evil 6, look for it to pick off where Resident Evil: Retribution left off with Alice (Milla Jovovich) and friends teaming up with Umbrella to save the last dregs of humanity.

As for the franchise he started, Anderson explained why he wanted to do zombies in the first place.

As a teenager I used to love zombie flicks. They were very, very popular with directors like (George A.) Romero and (Lucio) Fulci. That’s one of the reasons I created the first Resident Evil; I looked at the genre and thought, wow, I used to love this stuff and nobody had made a zombie film for over a decade, so I decided to make one. It ended up being the first in a whole slew of undead films.

I think the undead genre really plays to primal human fears. That kind of stuff never goes out of fashion. The themes of a zombie story are always good; they make for good filmmaking.

So are you Bastards out there looking forward to the next Resident Evil flick? Can’t say that I am, but this thing keeps making money, so why not?

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. E3 is one of the most boner-inducing nerd-fests on the face of the planet.  In past years it has not failed to live up to the hype of all the wonderful toys it promises.  This year is no exception, as top video game developers push the limits and try to outdo each other.

Here are some sneaks at a few of the fine offerings that gamers can expect to see in the near future.

The new Resident Evil 6, pushing the zombie hordes to the point of world-wide invasion:

I must have missed a few years in RE development, cause when did they get this fkn epic?  I got pretty bored after the 2nd RE title, but this one makes me want to go back and try again.

Release Date: October 2nd of this year.

A gameplay demo for the new Tomb Raider origin game:

Again, a big Wow!  Quite the improvement over what I remember Tomb Raider to be.  Looks like a truly epic experience in gaming, not just one of another 50 shoot-em-up/stab-em-up first-persons that come out every year.

Release Date: Early 2013.

Dead Space 3 demo, showing the new co-op feature:

I’ve never played the first two in this series, but aside from the general aesthetics (which are very pretty indeed), this game looks pretty much like a dozen other shooters that have come out over the years.

Release Date: February 2013.

Here’s a little bit of the new Devil May Cry.

Apparently in this one you get to play an unlikeable, annoying douchebag as the main character.  I was never a fan of the original DMCs, but this one, aside from being slightly more shiny, looks pretty much the same as all the rest.

Release Date: January 15, 2013

Trailer for the Transformers’ Fall of Cybertron game:

I’m not sure if there’s anything more to this game other than blowing other robots up, but it looks pretty epic.

Release Date: August 28, 2012

And more exciting than most (at least to me) – Aliens!

The Aliens: Colonial Marines trailer (with a bit of interview at the intro.):

After viewing that, I have to say that I am not as impressed as I hoped to be.  The choppy combat looks several years out-of-date, though I guess they’ll be cleaning a lot of it up before the release next year.

Release Date: February 12, 2013

Another Medal of Honor game as well.  I’ve been away from this series for quite some time, but when did we stop getting to kill Nazis?  That was the only reason I played this game… oh well, guess the glory days are over.

And here is the trailer, complete with a very annoying soundtrack:

Release Date: October 23, 2012.

Capcom said it was going to happen and boy howdy did they deliver on their promise. The sequel to Resident Evil 5 has been announced, and it looks like the bloody love child of RE4 and RE5. It’s magical.

Once again, players take control of Leon S. Kennedy, the former Raccoon City police rookie turned presidential protector, as he continues his fight against Umbrella. And like all Resident Evil games prior, shit goes down unleashing yet another zombie attack — but this time, it’s on a much wider scale. Just take a look at this first-look trailer, exclusively from the game’s site NoHopeLeft.com and the game synopsis below.
