They are working overtime to convince us that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is not going to suck, aren’t they? But cynicism aside, this is the third featurette on the upcoming superhero film we’ve gotten and the movie is still three-and-a-months from being released. So what has Marc Webb and company got for us today? A segment called “Lights, Camera, Action!” Does it feature the lighting? No, don’t be silly. Is it about the type of cameras they filmed the movie on? Nope, which means by process of elimination, this one’s all about the action. I mean, “Action!” (more…)
Spidey fans are abuzz regarding Paul Giamatti‘s upcoming appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Aleksei Sytsevich, aka The Rhino….
It could be the best or worst part of the highly anticipated sequel, depending on who you ask, and Sony seems to be banking on Giamatti’s drawing power: In a recent interview with Collider while supporting the upcoming release of Parkland, the acclaimed actor admitted that he’s signed a multi-picture deal. Rhino will definitely be appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and possibly 4–if 4 actually happens, that’s yet to be confirmed.
Giamatti has also hinted strongly that he’ll be participating in a Sinister Six movie–again, nothing’s been set in stone.
In any case, it appears Rhino’s involvement in ASM 2 will be relatively light (probably because Jamie Foxx’s Electro will be the principle baddie), setting the stage for a larger role in part 3.

There’s a new set of stills coming out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s production starring Andrew Garfield as our Friendly Neighborhood Web Slinger. This time around we’re getting a better look at Jamie Foxx in the new Electro suit. As cool as the new suit looks, I kinda miss the old yellow and green suit to tell you the truth.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Paul Giamatti in the full Rhino suit, he is such a talented actor, just take a look at the HBO miniseries Adams and you’ll see what I mean.
Take a look at the gallery below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, hits the big screen on May 2nd, 2014.
Firsts Pic of Paul Giamatti From ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Set [UPDATED: New Pics Featuring Spidey Added]
When I first heard that Paul Giamatti would be joining the cast of Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man 2, I was intrigued. When I heard that he was going to be taking on the role of super-large and super-mean villain The Rhino, I was incredulous. I mean, Giamatti isn’t exactly a towering muscle of a man. If anything, he’s quite the opposite. So I, like others, have been awaiting some pics from the currently filming Spider-Man 2 to see how they’re going to pull this one off. Finally, we have some. Okay, so we have one. And it doesn’t even show Giamatti in his Rhino suit. It does show him looking pretty pissed-off though. Check it out below:
And check out Amazing Spider-Man 2 when it hits theaters May 2nd, 2014.
UPDATE: New pics have been added. The gallery below involves Spidey on top a semi truck with Pault Giamatti’s Aleksei Sysvich behind the wheel.
We know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is full to the brim with villains – Electro (Jamie Foxx), Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), Black Cat (Felicity Jones), though that last one is more rumor than anything – but aside from a recent pic of Foxx as Electro, we haven’t seen too much of all those bad guys.
And now there’s this. It’s a video of some spy pics from the Rochester set of Amazing 2, and the video-makers think it seems to indicate the look of Paul Giamatti‘s character Rhino. Now obviously, the shot isn’t of the Rhino in costume, and it’s not even Giamatti himself, but the mask the stunt man is wearing, and the very Russian mob-style appearance with the tattoos and the jump suit, it’s easy to conclude that maybe this is what Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich might look like out of costume.

One might argue that there’s a definite lack of enthusiasm out there for an Amazing Spider-Man 2, but time marches on and so does development. Now we already know the casting news about Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Jamie Foxx as Electro, but Paul Giamatti as the Rhino?!?!?! That’s new.
The potential casting was broken by The Hollywood Reporter (via MTV). Giamatti would join Foxx as the two antagonists that Spider-Man (played again by Andrew Garfield), will have to save the day from in the superhero sequel. If this rumor/news sounds familiar, you’re right. Giamatti’s long been attached to the role of Rhino in the Spider-Man films, so much so that he’s even discussed it on the record.
“The Rhino was fantastic. He was, like, a Russian guy. He was real fast and he hit stuff real hard,” he said in a 2011 interview on Conan O’Brien. “He had, like, a rhino suit on, and his face was sticking out of the rhino suit and he had a horn.”
If this is true, I’m not sure what to think of the news. I don’t think the problem with Amazing 1 was not enough villains, but the fact that they didn’t really flesh out the characters and their motivations enough. Is there going to be enough oxygen to rectify that in part two, with Peter, Gwen and Aunt May being joined by Harry, Electro, Rhino, Mary Jane and possibly Norman Osborn? And while it’s true that old standards about big casts in superhero movies having a negative has been lampshaded by the likes of Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight movies and The Avengers, the last time a Spider-Man movie started to feel this bloated was Spider-Man 3. And we all know how well that turned out…
“It’s incredible,” says Foxx. “Especially for my little daughter, who is there for the make-up tests and everything. It’s another testament to Quentin Tarantino because without Django, I wouldn’t be doing Spider-Man.”
So what does Foxx have up his sleeves for Electro? “I’m going to keep it close to the chest but I followed the Spider-Man comic books,” he says. “And I would watch the television show growing up. It’s a blessing.”
Well, at least somebody’s happy about what’s coming up in Amazing Spider-Man 2.
More news as it develops.
