Rodrigo Santoro

The International trailer for Naom Murro‘s 300: Rise of an Empire, based on Frank Miller‘s graphic novel Xerxes, is making the Internet rounds. The sequel to the popular 300 retains that unique visual style and looks as well as the blood-splattering-slow-motion action of the franchise.

This trailer is only 60 seconds long, just enough of a taste to wet one’s appetite. The story picks up just after the story ends in 300. Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) is still intent on conquering Greece, the battle takes to the sea as the Greek general Themistokles (Sulliven Stapleton) unites all Greece to stop him.

You do not screw with the Governator on his day off. The new red band trailer for Kim Jee-woon’s badass action flick, The Last Stand, is out with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Knoxville teaming up to stop a madman who is speeding toward the US/Mexican border on the run from the law.

Written by Andrew Knauer and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, this new trailer features a ton of fresh car chases, Arnold scowls, and the beginning of a tense fight seen on a bridge. Who will triumph? Probably Arnold, but I for one can’t wait to see how he, Knoxville, Siff (Thor‘s Jamie Alexander), and Greendale Community College alumnus Luis Guzman take out the trash.

Check out the official synopsis for The Last Stand and the red band trailer (assuming you’re of age, junior) after the jump.

Warner Bros has cast Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) to star in 300: The Battle of Artemisia, which will be directed by Noam Murro for Warner Bros. Stapleton will play Themistokles, the Greek naval warlord, with whom the other key character, Xerxes, has a great rivalry.

There was some Internet talk that Stapleton might play Xerxes, but word is that the actor who originated that role in 300, Rodrigo Santoro is in talks to return to the role in this film. Stapleton was one of the terrific ensemble of Animal Kingdom, and he just completed a supporting role for the studio in Gangster Squad, the Ruben Fleischer-directed period crime film that stars Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin. Stapleton, who stars on the Cinemax series Strike Back, is repped by WME. ICM reps Santoro.

This looks like a smart casting move and a great opportunity for Stapleton. This NerdBastard hopes to see some great 300 style sea battles between Themistokles and Xerxes great war host.
