AMC will soon begin airing the third season of Preacher (based on the comic book series of the same name published by Vertigo/DC). The show stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as the outlaw Tulip, and Joseph Gilgun as the Irish vampire Cassidy. Last season saw the trio leave Texas on a road trip that found them in New Orleans looking for God, who happened to be a big fan of Nawlins Jazz. The first trailer and details on the new cast members have been revealed.
It is no secret that die-hard fans of Vertigo’s blasphemous/hilarious comicbook, Preacher, were a little less than pleased with the tone and direction of the AMC TV adaption. Writer Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon book was well known for being a weird mix of the irreverent and the bizarre. The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg produced TV show? Not so much.
That is, until now.
The season 2 trailer just dropped and as you can see for yourself, the series appears to be embracing its comicbook roots a little more earnestly: (more…)
Unless you’re lucky enough to slip into the SXSW showing of Seth Rogen‘s television adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon‘s Preacher on Monday, then you’ll have to wait like the rest of us until the series premieres on AMC later this year. Until then we can expect at least one more trailer and more pictures like the ones you’ll find after the jump. (more…)
Tweeted and true; after weeks of rumored negotiations for the role, one tweet affirms that we’ll be seeing a lot more screen time from a familiar Marvel face.
Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg are creating and producing the new television series for AMC- Preacher. Preacher is of course based off of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s series, published by Vertigo Comics. It follows the story of Texas preacher Jesse Custer and his (literal) search for God after being accidentally possessed by a powerful demon/angel hybrid. But who will, as Rogan said in his confirming tweet, “save our souls”? It’s none other than Dominic Cooper. (more…)
Dominic Cooper‘s already played one larger than life comic book character, the guy that spawned Tony Stark and raised him, Howard Stark. After appearances in Captain America: The First Avenger and in the Agent Carter TV series, Cooper’s got that role pretty much perfected, and he has to share it with John Slattery, who will play Stark when he appears next in Ant-Man. Don’t weep for Cooper though, he’s an in-demand actor, and he’s being courted – hard – for another major comic book role, the title part in AMC‘s upcoming series Preacher. This has been in the works for a while, but as casting the pilot is almost done, it seems that Cooper is drawing closer to his own deal to play Jesse Custer. (more…)
After years in development hell, the new series based on the DC Comics/Vertigo title Preacher seems to be really coming together. Under the auspices of the cable channel AMC and executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the casting process for the series has been going full-force the last week, and now another important piece of the acting puzzle’s been filled. When Jesse Custer departs on his trip across America to find God next year, he will have the assistance of one of the most important characters from the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon graphic novel. Hint: he drinks blood. At least when he’s not drinking alcohol. (more…)
In the 15 years since Preacher ended its vaunted run in Vertigo, there have been numerous (Numerous!) attempts to turn it into a viable movie project. After fits and starts, someone finally had the bright idea to make Preacher for a format that was more likely to appreciate its rich, complex and challenging storytelling, and that’s television. Now being developed for AMC, which has had some success making series based on comic books, Preacher has moved from the theoretical to an actual project that is now casting. Hooray! And just as you thought this day was never going to come, another confounding event has occurred, Preacher has cast Arseface. (more…)
Word around the Internet today is that Blair Underwood will join the cast of Marvel‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the second half of season two when the series returns to ABC in March 2015. What role will he be playing and how will he fit into the combined Marvel Television/Cinematic Universe? (more…)
