This week, Dwayne Johnson gets another chance to prove his magnetic star power in Central Intelligence, an action comedy co-starring Kevin Hart that sees Johnson as an intelligence operative that makes James Bond look like C-3PO. If the past is any indication, the combination of action-Johnson, and comedy-Johnson will lead to big dollars at the box office; another gold star for the man who started his career as the wrestler called The Rock 20 years ago.
In that, Johnson is a trailblazer. One of the rare veterans of the WWE that was able to parlay his star-power and experience in the ring into a big Hollywood career. More than that, Johnson has shown a dexterity and diversity of performances that put him in a unique Hollywood class: he can do action (obviously!), comedy, drama, kids films, and he doesn’t always have to even be on screen to do it. (See Moana later this year.) But with 15 years and so many performances, what constitutes the very best work of the man called “The Rock”? Let’s look at the Top Five performances – according to us – of Dwayne Johnson. (more…)
A few weeks ago, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased an upcoming project he was working on. He mentioned he was reading an outline for a “cool movie” that will see him partnering with director Shane Black next year. It didn’t take fans long to ascertain which films Black would be working on in the near future. The director is signed on to direct “The Predator,” a sequel to the it 1987 sci-fi film “Predator,” and to “Doc Savage.” Given Johnson’s acting ability and his physical stature, either film could certainly be a possibility for him to star.
Well, the actor has taken to social media and officially made the announcement that he will be taking on the titular role of Doc Savage. In his announcement, made on his Instagram page, Dwayne posted a photo from this weekend of himself joined with Shane Black, writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, and producer Hiram Garcia. Here’s what the actor revealed on Instagram… (more…)
This time it’s….more than likely going to be bigger and more disaster-y. Did you want this? You’re going to get it regardless. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is reportedly headlining a sequel to last years CGI-heavy disaster movie hit San Andreas with the action moving towards the excellently named ‘Ring of Fire’ in the Pacific Ocean. We’ll start the campaign for Johnny Cash to be on the soundtrack right here. (more…)
In a summer stocked with pre-established IPs and other well-known quantities, it was both surprising and unsurprising that a movie about an earthquake, San Andreas, should be one of the season’s biggest hits. Earthquake movies are unoriginal, and neither is the idea of a Dwayne Johnson starring vehicle becoming a hit, but combined the concept was a certified worldwide hit to the tune of $429 million and counting. Fitting then that Johnson and director Brad Peyton might want to team-up again, and preferable on something that requires a lot of digital disaster. Digital? Disaster? Did somebody say video game adaptation? Yes, it seems that for their next flick, Johnson and Peyton will be bringing Rampage to the big screen. (more…)
After having overseen the destruction of the western seaboard, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wants to do a little more hands-on mayhem. Hollywood Reporter announced today that Johnson has been attached to a big screen adaptation of a classic video game has it all: giant monsters eating destroyed cities, and glorious 8-bit graphics. That’s right, Rampage is coming to theaters sometime in the not-so-distant future. (more…)
You’re going to learn a few things if you go see San Andreas, one of the summer’s biggest entries into the ever-dwindling “Non-Superhero, Non-Disney, Non-Remake/Sequel, Non-YA” category. Allow me to outline them for you, in no particular order. (more…)
Last night’s episode of Arrow featured the climactic swan song for one of its main characters, a sudden departure for both actor and role and an important void that will galvanize the rest of the main cast going forward. It’s been a fairly uneven year for Arrow. With The Flash stealing some of its thunder and the difficulty in trying to top an excellent sophomore season, Arrow just hasn’t been up to snuff, and Ra’s al Ghul hasn’t been the big bad ass he’s been advertised to be. So now what? That was a heck of a cliffhanger the show left us with last night, so what comes next for Arrow and the Starling City gang? The executive producers have the answer, and warning, there be spoilers below. (more…)
