Arya Stark has been spending most of the past few seasons on Game of Thrones on the run inboynito. Ever since fleeing the capital with the help of Yoren (Night’s Watch recruiter), by chopping her locks and disguising her as an orphan boy named “Arry,” she has been trying to make it home every since. Bumping into all sorts of trouble along the way including; Ser Gregor Clegane (becoming a cup bearer for Tywin Lannister), Brotherhood Without Banners, and Sandor Clegane, Arya eventually finds herself filling the shoes of her fake persona – becoming a hardened, brutal killer, doing what is necessary in order to survive. Throughout this whole period, Arya and Clegane become scavengers, and they aren’t exactly the cleanest of people travelling across Westeros. Futhermore, we are left at the end of Season 4 with Arya leaving an injured Clegane and aboarding a ship for that’s heading towards Braavos, and that only means one thing folks! (more…)
Filming is currently underway in Northern Ireland for Season 3 of HBO‘s Game of Thrones and thanks to their official production diary, Making of Game of Thrones, we can share some cryptic info about a recently filmed fight scene. Reported by Cat Taylor, here’s the update,
In the forests of Clandeboye, on a Wednesday afternoon in August, a man and his wife were walking their dog and heard the sound of a fight.
It was an important rehearsal, and the two main protagonists are two of my season favorites: an unexpected pairing, whose war of words is almost as full-on as the fight. This struggle has been choreographed and rehearsed for weeks, with each move carefully placed to match the terrain. The fighters wore pads and fell on crash matts, though for the close-ups later in the week, during the first night shoot of the season, the landing would not be quite so comfortable. It will be a character-defining scene, for more than one who is involved, so it has to be done well.
More departments began to arrive for a full run-through. VFX was involved in creating the final moments of the scene, and special effects had a lot to do to make it all work. Armoury had designed a special weapon for this scene alone, and there was a nervous moment when it was first tested against the wood of a massive tree stump and the body of one of our brave stunt guys.
The couple asked what was happening, and looked on for a while, but were gently guided toward the path. What happens next is too big a secret for anyone to know, and it certainly can’t be told by me.
See what I mean about cryptic? It’s not clear exactly what climactic battle is being described but there are two popular guesses. And I should tell you now these theories could be considered spoilers, so, turn back ye wary of spoilers.
… … …
All right, the first is a fight between Jaime and Brienne which is expected to happen next season. But, the scene described doesn’t really match their fight. If I remember correctly theirs takes place in a riverbed. The scene painted above is much closer to a duel between The Hound, Sandor Clegane and Beric Dondarrion, leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners. Add in the photo above that accompanied the production diary post and the case seems strong for The Hound vs Dondarrion. What do guys think?
