sarah michelle gellar

If you’ve ever wondered how many miticlorians there are in a Slayer, wonder no more! Disney announced today that they will be adding the voice acting talents of Sarah Michelle Gellar to the second season of their wildly successful animated TV series, Star Wars Rebels. The series takes place fourteen years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, five years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hopeand twelve years after the fall of Sunnydale. Wait, no, this isn’t a fan fiction mashup! This is real! Okay, inquiring minds want to know – Jedi or Sith?!  Spoiler alert – read no further! (more…)

Because Sarah Michelle Gellar has had SUCH a successful career post Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she just can’t escape the thought of future vamp slayin possibilities.

Being that Veronica Mars raised $5 million for a movie, TV Scoop wondered why Buffy couldn’t do the same. They posed the idea to ‘ole Sarah Michelle. You can almost hear her rolls her eyes with her response. Here’s what she said:

“Joss and I always talk about [a movie],” Gellar told me during an interview for E! News. “But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn’t work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time.”

I think you all know the likelihood of a NEW Buffy is incredibly slim. You actually have better luck at finding out you’re the chosen one and have a lifetime of hunting vampires than you do at seeing a new Buffy show or movie. The cast are busy with their own successful careers (except for Nicholas Brandon, he ain’t doing shit) and Whedon has signed his soul over to Marvel. But, Sarah Michelle is right. A movie would never work. A TV show (or even the Buffy comic book series) would be only true form in which to develop stories for the Scooby gang that are worth telling. But, even then, the idea of Buffy has elevated to a level of praise and recognition beyond it’s own greatness. Basically, fans built it up and can just easily tear it down. Which, if a new Buffy were to happen, they most definitely would.

This time on Episodes! Jason is joined by NerdBastards own Nick Bungay and Paul Smith from the Gobbledygeek podcast to discuss the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode “The Body”, as well as a few other things (Jason & Paul’s dueling views on rad soap opera’s, Nick’s lack of Saved by the Bell knowledge, and Doritos)

So, what is the Episodes! podcast? It is NerdBastards‘ second podcast and it focuses on the wonderful world of television. Good shows, bad shows, new shows, old shows — all are in danger of having one of their classically good or classically bad episodes deconstructed and examined by our host — Bastardcast co-host Jason Tabrys — and a weekly special guest (or sometimes two). Yes, really it’s quite grand.

USA Today chatted with Joss Whedon recently about a variety of things, the upcoming Avengers film, obviously,  and what some of his favorite comics are. They also posed the question, who would win in a fight between Black Widow and Buffy, the vampire slayer. Joss delivers an answer that is both humours and extremely well thought out. It’s like he’s contemplated this showdown before.

Buffy would go easy at first, but as soon as Natasha popped her with a Widow Sting, she’d start bringing some slayer brawn to the fray. Natasha’s fast, but a couple of good connects and she’s wobbling, possibly something broken — she whips out her glock and now Buffy’s dodging — right where Natasha wants her. Natasha shoots the cable holding the steel barrels and they tumble onto Buffy, nearly burying her — Buffy just arcs out of the way, grabbing the splintered cable and swinging directly onto Natasha, a bullet grazing her cheek as her feet land hard on the Russian’s shoulders, sending her back flat — crack! — on the floor, Buffy wrenching the gun away and tossing it, fist ready for the final strike. Natasha, struggling to stay conscious, says the fight’s over. Buffy agrees, but Natasha explains: She poisoned Buffy hours ago. That waitress that brought her salad …? Natasha smiles. The poison is dormant — ’til it’s activated by adrenaline. Buffy’s eyes narrow. “Too bad I didn’t use any.” Wham! Natasha’s out for the count, and Buffy’s heading — slowly — to Willow for a mystical cleanse.

That’d be my first guess.

Umm…wow. This would be incredible! And I gotta give him props for Buffy coming out on top, chick is the slayer after all.

All right, so Joss, you must have some kind of influence. Any way you could convince Scarlet Johansson and Sarah Michelle Gellar to film this? It could be like a bonus on The Avengers DVD/Blu-ray. Hell, you could release it separately and surely make whatever budget back in a day!

Check out USA Today‘s whole interview as it’s full of great stuff. And tell us in the comments who you’d pick in a fight between the two? Do you agree or disagree with Joss’ scenario?

I loved Joss Whedon’s tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Not only was it ridiculously funny at times with some witty writing (trademark Whedon), but it also provided memorable characters that people still talk about to this day. And not to mention the fact that it launched the careers of the gorgeous Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alysson Hannigan.

But then, news broke of a re-boot.

There are certain movies and tv shows that should never be re-done … ever. Some examples are Jurassic Park, Star Trek (original series and TNG) and Seinfeld. And, I would have to include Buffy on the list.

I will concede that the 1992 Buffy film, starring Kristy Swanson and written by Whedon, was not a cinematic high point. But, what it did do was pave the way for a television series that lasted seven years that people still routinely discuss and watch today. The thought of a re-boot is just ridiculous.

But, not for Hollywood!

Most of the show’s stars (and fans) have stated that the re-boot is a horrible, horrible idea and that they will have no part in it … everyone except for Gellar, until now.

It was a movie. It’s been made. They made it. They don’t need to make another one … I think it’s a horrible idea. To try to do a Buffy without Joss Whedon, I mean that’s, like, honestly, to be incredibly non-eloquent: that’s the dumbest I’ve ever heard.

So, she’s against it too and I cannot say that I’m surprised. But, Hollywood is all about squeezing every last dime out of a franchise before re-booting it after only eight years.

With the project still actively in development, we will have to wait and see. But, I can tell you right now it will not hold a candle to the characters we all still know and love.

Know those bonus zombie killin’ levels in Call of Duty: World at War? Ya, they are amazeballs and fans have gone ape shit over them since their inception.

The bar was raised even higher when Treyarch took over and turned the Call of Duty: Black Ops zombie levels into fan favorite hits as well.  Zombies simply make everything better.

Now Treyarch is at it again. With the upcoming expansion map pack entitled Escalation, it will feature four new maps and yet another awesome zombie level named Call of the Dead. This isn’t just some normal, run-of-the-mill style run-and-gun like the franchise’s previous installments. This new level will have star power the previous one’s never had. Yes, playing as Richard Nixon was nice and all but pulling a Left for Dead move with Hollywood stars Robert Englund, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michael Rooker and Danny Trejo just makes all that spewing brain matter really worth it.

How does Hollywood taste?

Going all out to create their own special experience for the players before this new map pack drops next week, May 3rd, Treyarch called in the big guns. Not only did they emulate the grindhouse style, bringing back the voice over and ‘coming attractions’ opener, but they’ve brought in the grandfather of the zombie movie and have George Romero as a special zombie type. It’s their use of 45 Grave’s ‘Do You Want to Party?’that really sells what they’re making, maps that’s fun for all ages (with parental permission of course). Who cares if the song comes from Return of the Living Dead, a film directed by Romero’s estranged  producing partner John Russo. This still kicks more ass then Werewolf women of the S S, Nicholas Cage as Fu Manchu I’d rather watch Drive Angry 3D again.

Call of Duty:Black Ops-Escalation is avaible for X-Box live users May 3rd but Playstation users will have to wait another for another month until they can play as Buffy all weekend long.

Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar arrives at "The Air I Breathe" Premiere Hosted by H Magazine and Think Film at the ArcLight on January 15, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.

Remember when Sarah Michelle Gellar decided not to do an 8th season of Buffy because she wanted to start up her serious movie career?  Remember when after The Grudge movies all she did was a follow-up to Scooby Doo?  Yeah, me too.  So apparently she decided it’s time to make her return to television.  She’s done some voice work on popular cartoons and popped out a kid, but other than that she has been non-existent.

Now she is set to make her (triumphant?) return to the small screen on a new CBS series called Ringer. Peter Traugott is the producer of this show and this is what he had to say about it to Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s an edgy thriller about redemption and about revenge. There’s a point of view of two twin sisters who grew apart over a tragedy in their past. And one now seeks redemption and the other one seeks revenge. The sister who is seeking redemption has had a much more troubled life. When her fancy pants sister disappears, she takes over her life. She’s living the life of her more successful sister only to come to find out that her life is equally as fraught with danger and complication. Her sister dies in a boating accident. The other sister takes on her persona, only to come to find out that they have a hit out on her.”

Sarah will be playing the role of both twins, a la Lindsay Lohan from The Parent Trap before she was a hosebag.  He went on to explain why we should be giving a crap about her return at all, if we’re fans of her tenure at BTVS.

“One thing she wanted to guard against was making sure that she whatever she does in TV, she does something that her fans who had grown up loving Buffy will also be excited about. … I think what’s remarkable about her as an actor … she can play both sides well. If you remember Cruel Intentions, she was the villain, but you found yourself kind of rooting for her anyway. That’s what we’re looking for. How do we find something where her character has some edge, there’s some darkness to her, she doesn’t always do the right thing, but at the end of the day, you’re also rooting for her? And that’s what we were looking for in this. Obviously, Buffy was a hero, a kick-ass hero, and we wanted to be true to that with Sarah.”

We’ll see how it goes.  I’ll be watching the show just to see if she lost the baby weight yet, not for her amazing acting prowess.  She had her good moments on Buffy but by the end of it I was sick of watching her eyes go wide and fill with tears the exact same way, week after week.  Give me more Willow, Xander and Spike.  Speaking of Spike, when is James Marsters returning to TV?  That seems way more interesting to me.

Glee Star to Play Buffy in Movie Reboot??

heather morris cheerleader

Wow, it just seems like Glee is taking over EVERYTHING  right now…clearly one of the most popular shows in 2010, the stars just performed on Britains’ hit show X Factor and now one of the stars of the pop culture juggernaut is being considered to play Buffy Summers in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie reboot!  Heather Morris, who plays the dim-witted and lovable cheerleader Brittany S. Pierce on Glee is seriously being considered for the lead role in the film.  I already know there a ton of  you that most definitely won’t be happy about this news.  So what exactly makes this chick a front runner for Warners’ who now owns the rights to the movie, in the role you may ask??

Recently, Movieweb revealed that Morris is being considered for various reasons.

Heather Morris’s comedic timing is a perfect fit for Buffy Summers, and that her background as a dancer and a gymnast will be greatly utilized in the skill set that Buffy is supposed to have as a Slayer. In this new reboot, Buffy will no longer be in high school, but instead facing the same hardships that a lot of young college graduates have today in struggling to find a paying job and a healthy relationship.

The Buffy character certainly does have that witty comedic timing, which after watching Morris on Glee for a while now, I think she’ll nail.  What will be interesting to see is if Morris can pull off the straight-laced “my way or the fucking highway” attitude that Gellar executed so perfectly during her run on the show.

I for one and definitely interested in seeing how this reboot turn out even though it will be “Whedonless”.  I see the situation as win/win.  If it’s good then we’ll all be pleasantly surprised and have a new era of Buffy badassness and if sucks, well at least we’ll still have the memory of Whedon’s seven season EPIC masterpiece.
