Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim was a surprise when it came out. The flick showing giant robot going mano a mano with giant Kaijus was a surprise hit back in 2013. It had all the elements a summer blockbuster could have. Giant monsters, check. End of the world, check. Kickass Independence Day-style speech by the leader, check. Although the film did not gross as high as it wanted domestically, the film did well overseas and has gained a cult following. As a result, it’s no surprise that a sequel would be greenlit. But when would we get this new film? Looks like we now have a release date.
Wasn’t Harrison Ford great in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everyone? A legendary actor once again playing his most legendary role. But while Ford accepts praise for his portrayal of the older, but not remotely frail, Han Solo, the corporate overlords that own the rights to the character at Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company are currently looking for a younger model Han Solo to star in the second standalone Star Wars movie following Rogue One. From many, comes one, or at least in this case a dozen or so. Sources are telling one Hollywood trade that there’s now a short list for the new Han Solo, and the reason for the immediacy of casting the part may be surprising. (more…)
As production for one of the most-hyped upcoming movies draws nearer, we’ve been afforded a little more news about the casting of the Suicide Squad film. Two more cast members will join the ranks of the Rogues Gallery as they complete missions deemed to dangerous for normal government employees, and it begs the question…is Suicide Squad becoming too ‘Hollywood’?
