Season 1

We got a a trifecta of Star Trek news today.

First up. All five of the Star Trek captains appeared together for the first time this weekend at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con. The photo shows William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula from left to right. [GeekTyrant]

Second. A new behind the scenes photo has popped online from J.J. Abrams Star Trek 2. The photo come from a young actress named Anjini Azhar, who is playing the daughter of Noel Clarke and Nanzeen Contractor‘s character in the movie. Whats revealing about this photo is that Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov), are both wearing a new Starfleet uniform design. Personally, I’m not much of a fan of the new uniforms. Too “1940’s Germany” for me. [Trek Movie]

And finally. It’s been nearly twenty-five years since the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Since it’s initial pilot the show has spawned seven seasons, four feature films and somehow turned Wil Wheaton into a teen sex symbol, but we’re not here for that.

NCM Media Networks’s NCM Fathom and CBS television have teamed up for a special one night only event not even Q could pull together. To celebrate both the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: TNG and the upcoming release of season 1 on blu-ray, select theaters will screen two episodes of the iconic sci-fi series on July 23rd. The blu-ray will be released the next day in stores, July 24th.

According to the press release, the one night only showing will air episodes 106 – “Where No One Has Gone Before” and 114 “Datalore.” You can find participating location in your area here. Don’t worry if you cant get a ticket as some locations will be holding additional late night showings. As for when said tickets will be on sale, be first in line as of next Friday, June 8th to guarantee yourself the captain’s chair. This is the one time where being called “number 2” will not net your ship’s counselor.

Also included in in the showings is an exclusive look at the massive restoration of season one, never-before-seen interviews with the original cast, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the artists who created the original FX elements and photography during the making of the show. Audiences will even get an exclusive sneak-peak at season two’s ‘Measure of a Man’ episode.

“You Win or You Die” bleeds out any of the calm that might have remained before the impending storm in Game of Thrones‘ first season. After weeks of buildup, weeks of artfully moving pieces into place and honing blades for the impending cut, the storm begins here. It’s not the most beautiful episode of the series thus far, or the even the most emotionally resonant, but it is by far the most primal.
