An epic rematch more than 45 years in the making, actor and original Captain Kirk William Shatner comes face-to-face again with The Gorn as they play the new Star Trek video game in this viral video from Namco Bandai.
In the spot, The Gorn (taking a break from haunting Sheldon’s dreams) takes on against Shatner as they play the game. One misunderstanding leads to a fight and… Well, you can see the results for yourself. The video pays tribute to the classic original series episode “Arena,” which featured the first appearance of The Gorn and his often discussed and parodied showdown with Captain Kirk. The Gorn reappears in the new Trek video game as an enemy. In the game, they attack the new Vulcan colony and Kirk and Spock have to stop them.
“What better way to spotlight the adventure and fun everyone can have actually playing as Capt. Kirk in the new game, than to team up the legendary former captain himself to play one of his old foes,” said LeeAnne Stables, President of Consumer Products at Paramount Pictures, in a press release. “Mr. Shatner is such a great sport and that Gorn had absolutely no chance of coming out on top this time.”
“It never ceases to amaze me how many people still ask me about that scene,” added Shatner. “It’s 46 years later, and he hasn’t aged as well as I have.”
The Star Trek video is available for pre-order now and will released on April 23, 2013 on X-Box 360, Playstation 3 and PC. The promotional video is below along with the original Kirk/Gorn face-off from 1967.
The esteemed theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has been confirmed as a guest star on the April 4th episode of The Big Bang Theory according to EW. Big claps and Arsenio-era Dog Pound “Woof Woofs” to EW, but I’m pretty sure Leonard Nimoy scooped them via the twitter, when he wrote “Spock on Big Bang Theory on 3/29. Stephen Hawking the following week. Logical. LLAP” yesterday afternoon. LLAP, of course stands for Live Long and Prosper, and if you didn’t know that you sicken me to the core of my being.
As for the episode, no details are being released so the forces of nature demand that we speculate, so with that said — who else thinks Dr. Cooper will take umbrage with something in The Grand Design and storm off thanks to his indefatigable sense of superiority? Who else hopes Dr. Hawking puts him in his place? I see a lot of hands raised, and that should trouble you since I am in your computer.
Get ready Nimoy fans, he’s about to make a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory, but forget about your camera’s and just bring your tape recorders. Nimoy is only making a guest VOICE appearance in a dream sequence.
Although this NerdBastard is sure the episode will be funny, I’m kinda disappointed that it will only be his voice in Sheldon’s dream and maybe a large cutout or the autographed napkin that Penny gave Sheldon.
The show has a great history of guest shots of SciFi greats:
Two years ago, Nimoy announced he was retiring and done with acting.
“I have announced my retirement,”
“I will not be doing any more television or movie acting or directing.”
It sounded like he really meant it, but the folks behind The Big Bang Theory must have found some pretty good dirt on Nimoy or finally found his magic number.
Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), has a serious obsession with Nimoy’s famous alter ego Spock. Therefore, it’s fitting that the actor will appear in an upcoming dream sequence. According to TV Line, for Nimoy’s guest spot he’ll be heard, but not seen. He’ll speak to Sheldon not as himself, but as Spock.
