On Wednesday evening we got a chance to attend the Silent Hill: Revelation 3D premiere at the ArcLight in Hollywood, CA. The film is written/directed by Michael J. Bassett (Cinemax’s Strike Back), produced by Samuel Hadida (Resident Evil: Afterlife), and stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Adelaide Clemons (The Great Gatsby), Sean Bean (Missing), and Carrie-Anne Moss (Vegas). The film is the sequel to Silent Hill, and is based on the groundbreaking video game franchise of the same name. The film synopsis states:
Heather Mason (Clemons) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.
At the red carpet event before the cast and crew screened the film, I got the opportunity to speak with Harington, Clemons, Hadida, and Bassett about the film. First up, I spoke to Kit Harington about what it was like to be in his first film following the success of the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, which is also adapted from a previous work. Unlike Thrones, which is based on a best-selling book series by George R. R. Martin, I was curious what the experience was like to film a horror movie based off of a video game. Harington replied:
“I enjoyed them both, you know? I’m not used to working in this sort of industry, so to do anything is very exciting. I’ve always wanted to do a horror movie, so I really enjoyed doing this.”
After Harington finished talking to the press, he went over to the fans who had been waiting for hours just to see him. He then proceeded to take photos, and sign autographs. After I spoke with him, I got the opportunity to talk to the producer Samuel Hadida. Hadida was understandably very excited about the film, and had a lot to say about what fans could expect.
“Silent Hill is very influenced by Jacob’s Ladder.” Adding “We wanted to give you a more detailed version of Silent Hill. We wanted everybody who saw the first movie to be very excited to see their character back in the city of Silent Hill, and to fulfill their recollection of what happened six years later.”
After Hadida, I was lucky to get the chance to hear Adelaide Clemons thoughts on filming Silent Hill. When asked if she had previously done a horror movie, Clemons responded, “I have done several, but not one anyone would have ever seen.” She also thinks fans will find the plot of this film to be very interesting. One of the burning questions was whether or not she ever got scared filming the movie. Clemons said:
“Oh, yes, absolutely! As you will see, the monsters are really graphic, so you can’t help it.”
The last person I was able to talk to was the film’s writer/director Michael J. Bassett. Like Hadida, Bassett is a fan of the horror genre. When asked why he chose to direct the Silent Hill sequel, Bassett replied:
“I just like the horror movies. They’re the ones that I grew up with, you know? No matter what I do in any genre, I don’t know, maybe I’m just a creature kind of guy. If you’re going to make a movie, then make a movie you love.”
Bassett also talked about his upcoming project with David S. Goyer (Man of Steel) titled, Da Vinci’s Demons. It’s a television series that tells the “untold” story of Leonardo Da Vinci that is in the vein of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He has also just wrapped the Cinemax series, Strike Back.
I wan’t able to screen the film, but from the trailer the special effects look really great. Also, Hadida revealed that there will be more monsters, and action in this film than the first. Also more of Sean Bean! Silent Hill: Revelation 3D opened nationwide today (October 26th).
Movies based on video games have a history of, well, sucking. Silent Hill, however, was a step in the right direction for console-to-screen transitions. The effects were great and the monsters were frightening as fuck (nurses with testicle heads…). Now, the darkness is coming again, in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
Let’s do a reboot they said. It will be fun they said.
You should know, SHR is not a continuation of the first one. Sure, both the aforementioned testicle head nurses and (also) Sean Bean are back (playing a different character), but this is different from the first movie. This is based off of Silent Hill 3 the video game, which is the sequel to Silent Hill 1 the video game, not the movie. The movie is an adaptation of Silent Hill 1, which doesn’t follow the video game at all (as decent as it was).. This one seems to follow Silent Hill 3 quite well, though.
In Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.
I for one, have been looking forward to this follow-up for a while. I mean come on, the King in the North’s face in three glorious dimensions?
Anyway, in anticipation of Silent Hill: Revelation, Open Road Films is giving away LIMITED EDITION (1) large and (2) small “Robbie the Rabbit” stuffed animals! Who doesn’t love a good scare from the infamous Robbie the rabbit?
Robbie the Rabbit is an anthropomorphic rabbit doll that has made appearances in many of the Silent Hill games. In some of his appearances, his mouth is covered with blood. For the most part, his appearance seems to serve little more than to provide an ambiguous level of unease to the player, due to the odd nature of his existence within the world of Silent Hill, his bright colors compared to the rust brown and dark red of everything else, and his recurring cameos. Most fans believe him to be sentient and believe that he is “watching” the player.
2. Retweet the following message “RT @NerdBastards 4 Ur Chance to Win ‘Robbie the Rabbit’ stuffed animals. #WelcomeToSilentHill. ”
The contest is also open to fans who already follow us on Twitter (you just need to RT the message). Multiple tweets are allowed (No limit, but don’t flood the feed. Play nice and keep it shiny.)
One lucky winner will be randomly chosen on Friday 10/26/2012 . The rabbits will be mailed out -free of charge via standard delivery and should be to the lucky lil bastard or bastardette within 1-2 weeks.
Got it? Now, what are you waiting for? Start spreading the Nerd Bastards gospel. DO IT NOW!
By the way, has it occurred to you that Firefly is 10 years old? How extremely depressing is that?
Director Michael J. Bassett and company released a clip from the upcoming Silent Hill: Revelation sequel just after Comic Con 2012 and thankfully we didn’t have to wait much longer to see the first trailer, it just hit the Internet.
The movie stars Adelaide Clemens, Sean Bean, Kit Harington, MalcolmMcDowell, Carrie-Anne Moss and Radha Mitchell. For those not familiar with the Silent Hill video game or movie franchises here’s the latest movie’s synopsis:
Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand, Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.
Sean Bean plays Heather Mason’s father and as seen in the trailer is kidnapped as bait to bring Heather back to Silent Hill. This NerdBastard is hoping that Bean’s prior roles don’t foreshadow a tragic end in Silent Hill: Revelations, but this is a horror flick so who knows, if he doesn’t make it out of this film alive at least it should be a memorable, yet horribly gruesome death.
There are some nurses in the clip and the trailer that frankly, scare the crap out of this NerdBastard, I don’t even want to mention the monster made up of old baby doll parts . . . *shudder*.
Here’s the nurse clip mentioned earlier. Those nurses creep me the hell out.
Can a videogame actually be turned into a movie that is actually good? It’s a question that often plagues a process of such an endeavor. A discouraging thought to many who attempt this daunting task. However, those involved in theSilent Hill sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation don’t seem to be burdened at all with that fear. And it’s a good thing these people don’t scare easily because they’re covering some seriously creepy content!
It was announced that,
Radha Mitchell (The Crazies, Surrogates), Sean Bean (HBO’s upcoming series “Game of Thrones,” Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, “The Lord of the RIngs”), and Deborah Kara Unger (Shake Hands with the Devil, 88 Minutes) will return to join Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”) on Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
In addition to an eager cast waiting to return to the project, both new director, Michael Basset and Cinematographer, Maxime Alexandre expressed their excitement about the project as well. Basset commented,
“It wouldn’t be the same without some of the original ‘Silent Hill’ cast. Sean, Radha and Deborah’s return will certainly thrill fans of the franchise and compliment Revelations stars Adelaide and Kit.”
And Alexadre painted a haunting picture of the direction of the sequel saying,
“With the most advanced technology available, in particular the lighter, smaller and more flexible 3D Red Epic, we are able to take audiences deeper in the world of ‘Silent Hill’ than they ever dreamed possible. Devotees will finally be able to enter this realm along side of Heather, Vincent, Harry and Rose and experience the psychological horror and the fear of the unknown with them.”
Now, I usually despise video game adaptions. Silent Hill was a step in the right direction. It had a few missteps but nothing that really made me despise it. If this one holds together I’ll have a watch
The plot of Silent Hill: Revelation follows the character of Clemens and her father. Her father ends up disappearing and Clemens begins to come to the realization that she may be trapped in Silent Hill FOREVER.
Are there any Silent Hill fans out there, if so, are you pumped for a sequel??
Check out a new photo from the sequel after the jump!
