South by Southwest Film Festival

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey

The South-by-Southwest Film Festival is currently in full swing, and the lineup of events, panels, and screenings for the week-long celebration of movies is impressive, to say the least.  Recently, the festival hosted some of the top behind-the-scenes brass from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to chat about the making of the film in advance of the movie’s home-video release. If this is any indication of how awesome the upcoming Joss Whedon film Avengers is going to be, then we are in for quite a treat! James Gunn, whose most recent project, a super-hero comedy, Super gave it a ringing endorsement at the South by Southwest Film Festival.  Gunn who hasn’t himself read the script commented,

“Everybody I know who’s read it says it’s by far the best script for a Marvel movie ever. I’m very, very excited about it. Nobody loves superheroes more than Joss. He’s really got his heart in the right place.”

Joss Whedon in one of the few directors out there that can illicit such excitement from the geek world!  It’s like he’s the nerd equivalent to a boy band like the Backstreet Boys circa 1997 “Quit Playing Games” but replace screaming girls with screaming guys wearing Star Wars shirts.

All kidding aside, I’m SUPER stoked about this project as it is the first time ever that all these superheroes in the film will meet.  The ensemble cast is EPIC and consist of Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and is set to hit theaters May 4, 2012.

But singing Joss’ praises wasn’t all Gunn had to say at the Festival.  He tore into Warner for their handling of the DC Universe saying,

“Warner Bros. is obviously fucking up. They don’t know how to make a good superhero movie unless Christopher Nolan is involved to save their lives.”

Do you guys agree with Gunn?  Are Marvel films clearly the victor in the battle against DC??
