Is Foot Locker Ad Hinting at Return of ‘Space Jam’?

The latest Foot Locker commercial is raising some questions about the potential return of Space Jam to our screens. The new ad showed the return of the Monstars and the Toon Squad, and also featured LA Clippers star Blake Griffin and Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler. What does this mean? There have been no official announcements regarding a Space Jam sequel, but the commercial seems to be throwing out some pretty big hints that Space Jam could be coming back in a big way. (more…)

When we talk about Space Jam these days, it’s usually about the proposed sequel starring LeBron James. Discussions about some kind of continuation of the Looney Tunes meets basketball film is appropriate because we’re coming up on the 20th anniversary of that film, and in a perfect world, this would have been the perfect time for that King James-led reboot, but he’s still busy playing basketball against humans and winning world championships for most of the year. So maybe this will work just as well: Fathom Events has announcement that next month, they’ll be bringing the original ’96 Space Jam back to theatres for Looney Tunes versus space monsters delight. Who’s up for a Monstars rematch? Warner Bros. is banking we are as there have been occasional loud discussions about progress on getting Space Jam 2 in front of the cameras. The original Space Jam, released almost 20 years ago in 1996, was a big hit as Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes squared off in a basketball game against a group of space monsters for the fate of the planet, and since no hit can go by without a sequel anymore, Warners has been looking to draft LeBron James for a second Jam. Witness what might be the greatest costume…ever. For a dog anyway. Meet the Wampug.

Chubbs is owned by uber Star Wars fan, Star Wars Chick. She says,

Every year I make a new costume for my girl Chubbs and this year was no exception. This year she became the dreaded Hoth Wampug! Here she coming directly from her photoshoot and looking cute as can be!

I take  back everything I’v ever said about how dumb and pathetic animals look dressed in costumes. Because this is too awesome, too adorable, and guys, she’s a Wampug. Fuck, if they could collect the DNA of the fictional creature, the Wampa, and blend it with a pug’s, it would be the single greatest pet ever. (Laughing Squid)
