Spider-Man 4

With news that Michael Keaton will be playing Vulture in the new Spider-Man: Homecoming film, concept art from the cancelled Spider-Man 4 has been released which was also supposed to feature Vulture and Mysterio as villains of the movie. And yes, this is the Toby Maguire version of Spider-Man. This is not to be confused with the reboot staring Andrew Garfield. The original Spider-Man 4 was due for release in May of 2011 and, of course, to be directed by Sam Raimi.

Sony Pictures – you know, the guys that bring you movies about that spider-guy – may be looking to ramp up their game in the super hero franchise wars.  In addition to pretty much committing to an endless series of Amazing Spider-Man sequels, it looks like they may setting their sights on the fourth installment of the franchise as a way to introduce new characters to their own films.

Marc Webb, in an interview with Crave Online, had this to say:

“Well, I think this was conceived of as a trilogy so there was a defined architecture to the story we were telling and we had sort of a rough outline of what was going to happen. I think [for] the fourth movie, what we’ve discovered is there are so many ancillary characters, that have enormous, cinematic potential that there may be other ways to exploit those characters, in a way that is exciting and fun and worthwhile. It might not just be a Spider-Man movie.”

Well, it’s a long way between Amazing Spider-Man 2 “coming soon” and the script for number 4, but at least Sony is heading in the right direction to stay competitive.  With any luck, we could see some unusual super hero flicks ahead.

What Spidey franchise heroes/villains do you think could hold down their own flick?  Personally, my vote is for Bartok the Leaper.  Nothing says awesome like a jumpy French guy.

Spider-Man Reboot To Be In 3-D

spidermanJust like how many movies are going to be, Sony has made an announcement that the new Spidey reboot will be in 3D when released on July 3rd, 2012. If you haven’t heard, Spider-Man 4 has recently been canned and was replaced in favor for a reboot and will be directed by (500) Days of Summer’s Marc Webb. Other than that, it is heavily rumored that the time frame will mostly be during Peter’s wonderful high school days and hopefully no musicals will burst out during any of the scenes. In my opinion, I think by 2012, there will be people that are tired of the whole 3D thing, hell, I know some people now who already is; but then who knows, maybe there will better 3D technology by then. I’m just hoping there will be one scene where it looks like Spidey is throwing his web at your face, since this will give some sick people the feeling that they have been Spiderman.
