With the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War so close, we are all dying to get any hint of a clue as to the plot we’re all on hyper-alert for anything that remotely feels like a firm detail. And in the latest TV spot, there is a split-second flash of Iron Man and Star-Lord looking quite tense.
During San Diego Comic-Con 2016, at the Marvel panel, we were flat out told who Kurt Russell was playing in the movie, despite it being a secret up until that point; not only he is Star-Lord’s father, but he is also Ego the Living Planet, and not J’Son of Spartax, like in the comics. His costume from the film was also revealed to us on Twitter and Instagram. Many fans, unable to avoid the news, were a bit dismayed; the character change was so out of left field, they felt it would’ve added a nice twist on the movie’s story. Director James Gunn has responded by telling us it’s not a spoiler. But how? (more…)
With Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially kicking off in just a few weeks with the release of Captain America: Civil War, speculation is flying as to what the third round of movies will bring. At a press event this weekend, some more information about Phase Three solidified as the Russo Brothers, who directed Civil War and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are slated to direct the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies, shifted attention from one MCU Chris (Chris Evans) to a couple other Chris-es. When asked about Infinity War, the Brothers confirmed the involvement of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt).
Alright, Marvel, you already have our money – now, two of your biggest stars have stolen our hearts with their off-screen “rivalry”. In case you haven’t been paying attention to the Twitterverse, a couple of weeks back, Captain America and Star-Lord (or, Chris Evans and Chris Pratt, if your prefer those monikers) decided to bet on the Big Game. Now, the final pass has been thrown (and caught, albeit by the other team), and it is time to settle on that bet and, of course, the Two Chrises (I see a reality show in their somewhere) have decided to settle the bet in the best way possible. Is this a case of a Pratt trifecta? Well, not quite, but it’s certainly shaping up that way with this latest casting rumor. Coming off the back of one of the biggest films of 2014 Guardians Of The Galaxy and leading up to a new Jurassic Park, Chris Pratt is now reportedly being eyed by Disney to star in the planned revival of the Indiana Jones franchise. Guardians of the Galaxy has been one of Marvel’s biggest success stories this year, but we live in a world basked in pessimism. Thusly, with everyone having access to the Internet, and myriad platforms for people to pine and criticize – anyone can be a critic these days. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before the folks at Cinema Sins would eventually nit-pick at the intergalactic summer blockbuster subjecting it to a heavy beating in the proverbial boxing ring. As per usual, Cinema Sins are just as ruthless and merciless with Guardians of the Galaxy as they are with all their other movie dissections. So, don’t dive in expecting any leniency on their part, as they pick the recent blockbuster apart. (more…)
Ever since Marvel announced its release slate for the next five-years, everyone presumed it would eventually lead up to an Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy crossover. James Gunn has been asked about this numerous times as of late, especially while he has been on the promotional circuit pushing the Blu-ray and dvd release of his film. In interviews, Gunn always comes across as being very protective of the world and characters he has created in Guardians Of The Galaxy, so when there are ever any questions about a crossword within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he always seems pretty despondent about the whole concept of the Avengers and the Guardians teaming up. However, given that they are the Guardians of the Galaxy; it would make more sense to give Gunn more time for the fans to explore his characters and their motives in more detail, and to explore the Galaxy that they are protecting. Therefore, it’s understandable at this point in time that Gunn‘s mindset is nowhere near, even contemplating how the crossover is going to come about at this point in time. After all, he has only just recently started work on the Guardians of the Galaxy 2. (more…)
Yesterday we were treated to a Guardians of the Galaxy dance-off clip between Star-Lord and Ronan The Accuser, which was to decide the fate of the world ( …this could have worked as an alternate ending, no?). That scene was basically a set-up for Dave Batista (Drax the Destroyer) according to James Gunn. You can see how he is caught off guard as he starts to express a confused – ‘what-the-hell-is-going-on’– type grin. Not only is this a wonderful clip, but it also invites us – the viewers – to vicariously feed off of the good vibes they obviously had whilst filming the movie. The chemistry is great in the film, and this must of been one of the many elements, that when mixed together, produced a gem of a film. You can view the clip again here, …and “Dance-off” (more…)
Adult Peter Quill was introduced to us immersed in the one thing he cares about most: music. Years after his childhood abduction by space pirates, we see him on planet Morag, enthusiastically dancing to the throwback rhythms in his headphones. He’s there to steal an artifact from an ancient and abandoned facility because he’s a brash, self-centered and reckless thief. There’s nothing alien about him, but he’s only truly human in his appearance. Quill’s got no ties to Earth, hence the reason he’s never rushed back there. He can hop between worlds in his ship and the only reason he’d do so is to steal things. When we meet Peter Quill aka Star Lord, the two elements that define him are his criminal ways and songs from his “Awesome Mix” tape. I’ll happily take more of both, but in the meantime… (more…)
Chris Pratt is living life using his Guardians of the Galaxy character Star Lord’s motto of doing, “Something good, something bad, a bit of both.” Let’s start with the bad. Back when principle filming completed on James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Chris “Sticky Fingers” Pratt made off with his Star Lord costume, a bit of bad, but he did it for all the right reasons. This is where the good comes in. Yesterday, Pratt made good on that promise he made to himself when he decided to swipe his Star Lord costume by visiting the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in full Star Lord duds. (more…)
