Steve Pink

The news today about Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s next project was unexpected for many Arnold fans. Who’d believe that Arnold would join the cast of The Toxic Avenger Reboot? Steve Pink‘s remake has been in the works for a while and the news that Arnold is in talks to take a leading role in the project is sure to give the project some much-needed publicity and Internet hype.

Arnold isn’t going to play the Toxic Avenger though, the word is he is up for the villain this time around. The last time Arnold played a comic book villain was as Mister Freeze in Joel Schumacher‘s horrendous Batman and Robin debacle. Which villain could Arnold play in the Toxic Avenger’s world of crazy villains? Many are banking on Cigar Face, because of Arnold’s love of cigar smoking, it just fits him.

The original film was set in Tromaville, New Jersey – a small American town, terrorized by criminals. Among the residents of Tromaville is Melvin, a nerdy emaciated janitor at the local health club. A gang of thugs devise a cruel hoax that goes horribly wrong as Melvin is cast through a third story window into a vat of hazardous toxic waste. However, an unexpected metamorphosis takes place. As the chemicals take hold of his body, Melvin turns into the Toxic Avenger, doer of good, and brutal mauler of evil.

Here’s the original trailer, you can expect the reboot to be just as campy, that’s Troma‘s trademark style.

So yeah… This is happening. Earlier this year it was announced that there will be a Toxic Avenger remake and that it will be aiming for a PG-13 rating to gain audience. We recently got some news about the remake and that Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine, Accepted) will be directing the film. Pink went on to say this:

““The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country–wait, that’s not big enough–what the world needs right now.”

Other news is that Pink and Daniel C. Mitchell (Dead Last) will be writing up the script. While I like Pink’s enthusiasm, I really don’t think we need a remake of Toxie, especially a PG-13 remake though I am all for the idea of introducing the Toxic Avenger to a new generation of folks.

What do y’all think of this news? You think Pink will be able to bring the funny to the Toxic Avenger remake or will this fail in the new age? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment.

A Robot Uprising Comedy!

Trailing on the heels of Steven Speilberg deciding to adapt Daniel H. Wilson’s Roboapocolypse it turns out that another Wilson book will be brought to life, How to Survive a Robot Uprising. Conquering this task will be none other than Jack Black and Hot Tub Time Machine director, Steve Pink.  As of now there is not much info about the project except that Pink is currently working on the project and may or may not star Black.

Although there is not much divulge yet, it’s pretty exciting news and I hope that Black will be in the movie!  He’s a comedic genius and can really be a great asset to the film.  I often think that projects such as this should be approached in a comedic manner and hope it turns out as good as it sounds!  What do you guys think about this project??
