For the second year in a row, Conan O’Brien is taking his show on the road to San Diego to attend Comic Con International: San Diego, otherwise known as SDCC. Last year Conan partnered with Funko, the company behind all of the Pop! Vinyl figures that have been taking the world by storm. Featuring characters from a wide variety of pop culture icons, the figures this year honoring the late night talk show host feature Conan dressed as a number of notable characters from upcoming films, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ghostbusters, Justice League, and Suicide Squad. Did you know that Kevin Smith is a Star Wars fan? It’s true, watch his movies. From the first of a litany of Star Wars jokes and conversation in Clerks, you knew that you were in the presence of a mega-fan. It should come as no surprise then that Smith would lend himself to a new Star Wars project. Like so many others, we had a role in the recently released Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and like so many other Star Wars information, the exact details of Smith’s role have remained a secret…. Until now. What part did Smith play? Let’s just say he was a faceless cog in the machine. (more…)

The Man Behind The Z6 Baton: TR-8R’s Identity, Revealed!

NerdBastards previously speculated on the secret history behind the Internet’s favorite storm-trooper. We read through the relevant fiction, we had debates that devolved into improptu broom-handle saber fights and we ranked The Force Awakens memes in our spare time between editorial whip-cracks at the office. Now, after weeks of time wasted on pointless, dead-end arguments, LucasFilm has decided to cave in and give the fans TR-8R’s true identity!

(Also, this is canonical. So no backsies.)

I’ve never been to Los Angeles, but I take it that running into a Stormtrooper along Hollywood Blvd. is no big thing. It’s probably also no big deal to run into a celebrity either. How about this though, a celebrity in Stormtrooper armor, and more than that, one of the stars of Star Wars in Stormtrooper armor, offering you a chance to go to the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and meet the stars? No, this is not a Charlie Kaufman movie, this is the latest video for the Omaze campaign, Star Wars: Force for Change. (more…)

Everyone has a cause in which they believe.  If you have any doubt of this, take a look at Facebook after the landmark decision made last week and you will see many, many examples of people who believe in a cause.  However, how often do we actually do something, outside of changing a profile photo or commenting on a post, to contribute to that cause?  Most people stand in solidarity but their stand doesn’t go much further.  Then, you have people like Kevin Doyle. Kevin isn’t a movie star or a celebrity; he isn’t a civil rights activist or a political personality.  Instead, he is simply a good person, doing a good thing, in memory of a woman he loved.  (more…)

Yesterday afternoon the Lynn Massachusetts Police Department started to receive a number of calls reporting a man in Star Wars costume holding a toy (?) gun outside the Brickett Elementary School right about the time school was scheduled to let out. You can imagine what happened next, although you could skip all that imagination time and just click the jump to find out what really happened. (more…)

We’ve all seen the on set pictures of the new Batmobile for Zack Snyder‘s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice that surfaced earlier this week. Snyder decided to tweet an official picture of that marvelous vehicle after those others leaked. Then quiet rumors started to buzz around the Internet that one of the Batmobile model cars had been stolen off the lot. Warner Brothers and Snyder haven’t confirmed or denied the theft rumor, but early this morning Snyder did tweet a fantastic photo that touches on the subject. (more…)

With the first full day of National Fan Expo (actually the second), more people were out on the convention floor showing off their mad skills with a needle and thread, and sometimes plastic, metal and duct tape. Mixed in with the usual zombies and superheroes, were a large number of people wearing the finest gear of Westeros. We also found one Venom and a Carnage, a Tinkerbell, a Xena Warrior Princess, and a bunch of people from anime with their overly elaborate and almost impractical outfits for moving in large crowds. The artistry in some of these costumes is impressive, or in the case of our two cover boys above, you can at least appreciate the workout routine that let’s them get away with wearing so little.
