Suicide Squad 2

Last year James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. With Brightburn in theaters, Suicide Squad 2 next in the pipeline, and rehired by Disney, Gunn spoke with Deadline about the past year and where he finds himself now. How did the firing change him and why does he consider the day he was fired the “best” and “worst” day of his life? Gunn’s story and experience is one that we should all be paying close attention to and learning from. In his own words “People have to be able to learn from mistakes. If we take away the possibility for someone to learn and become a better person, I’m not sure what we are left with.”

The praise for Wonder Woman this summer has been overwhelming, but while the other DC Extended Universe movies have each been successful in terms of box office, until Wonder Woman they lacked a certain cache in terms of excitement. They just kind of happened. But money talks, and it talks loudly, so despite the extremely mixed reaction to Suicide Squad, a sequel is in the works, but not under writer/director David Ayer. That duty will fall to a new filmmaker, and the current frontrunner is used to swimming with the sharks.  (more…)

When we think about the DC cinematic Universe, we tend to picture an ageing society beauty long forgotten by press and public. Alone in her dusty mansion, she gazes longingly at a faded photograph of Christopher Nolan before coughing spots of blood onto a handkerchief. Things aren’t looking too good, in short. The “take off and nuke the site from orbit” moment was last year’s Suicide Squad, an extended Hot Topic advert that left both fans and critics cold. In order to stop the patient from bleeding out on the table completely, they’ll need a new team for the sequel. Only the best of the best will do. So, who are they eyeing up so far?
