suicide squad movie
Tonight (Apr. 10) the as promised release of an all new trailer for David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad made it’s debut during the MTV Movie Awards and it did not disappoint (the trailer that is, I will not pass judgement on an award show for movies on a channel that has ‘music’ in it’s name but only runs TV shows about people being ‘catfished’ on the internet.) Packed with new footage featuring more of Jared Leto’s Joker and Ben Affleck’s stunt doubles Batman and even, amazingly enough, those rumored jokes the reshoots were suppose to add*. Already? Damn, Ayer you are quick at the editing bay.

Despite initial reticence when the first picture of Jared Leto‘s Joker was released with an all-too-obvious “damaged” tattooed on his forehead, anticipation for Suicide Squad, the DC Extended Universe‘s next installment after the just released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has been steadily building as more and more material has been released. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Leto’s Joker actually looks really intriguing. Following Heath Ledger’s incredible portrayal of the iconic character in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is probably the least enviable job for an already accomplished actor so far this century, but it looks like Leto has attacked the project with gusto. Will Smith recently praised the performance of his costar and now director David Ayers has shared some glowing remarks about the actor.
Since her first appearance in the legendary Batman: The Animated Series, the clown lady-in-waiting of crime has become a staple among the Caped Crusader’s considerable villains roster. When her first proper silver screen appearance on the latest Suicide Squad film was announced however, many of her avid fans expected her to rock her signature Court Jester look or to at least settle for the newer, darker goth-pinup girl with issues. Margot Robbie apparently decided to bring this issue to a close with her latest statement on the villain’s costume choice…
There was a lot of uncertainty when it was announced that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment‘s first foray into its Expanded Universe post-Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice would be based on the Suicide Squad. It was unconventional choice to build a movie around a reluctantly heroic group of supervillains, and there was the predictable blowback once casting had started to be announced, but since we’ve started to get a look at the film through trailers, something weird has been happening: people are looking forward to it. It would not be incorrect to say that there’s even excitement about Suicide Squad, which is why it should comes as no surprise that the sequel may already be in the works. (more…)
Tattoos. Sometimes they are small, inside jokes about one’s character. Other times, they are simple attention-grabbers or a telltale sign that you have made some poor life decision or another. If you have picked Margot Robbie as your designated tattoo artist, it’s probably the latter, as proven by the latest mess up in the aftermath of their wrapping the Suicide Squad movie production…
Or perhaps a Moonie, maybe even a preacher on TV! Whatever your opinion might be on Suicide Squad‘s new Joker (portrayed by Jared Leto), the supervillain has made an impression on everyone who’s watched the trailers or even slightly kept up with the hype surrounding DC‘s upcoming all-supervillain movie. But how is the actor keeping up with the flamboyant psychopath that is Batman‘s archnemesis?
According to director David Ayer, better than expected apparently…
Dads, am I right? Sometimes they are awkward or they don’t get the stuff you’re into. Other times, they crack awful puns or get you grounded on trumped up charges, but they always make it worth your while. Like for example when they go out of their way to get you that one thing you really, really want or when they stick by you even when you have come up with the awful idea of pursuing an acting (or worse yet, a writing) career.
In Harley Quinn Smith‘s case, her payout came when her dad (nerd-culture legend Kevin Smith) handed her one of the most important movie memorabilia of her life…
The first DC movie Universe all-supervillain movie is set to get the hype train-rolling, what with a brand new trailer about to hit the Interwebs by next week. Coupled with the Cartoon Network animated show, Suicide Squad is raring up to be a step in the grim and dark direction for the franchise and one that the studios seem to be really desperately counting on, if the cast is anything to go by so far.
In an effort to further whet your appetite, Warner Brothers has gone ahead and released its first official Suicide Squad posters, in all their teasing glory!
Unlike Marvel Studios, DC Entertainment believes in the separation of TV and film. That’s why, to the disappointment of many fans, you won’t see Stephen Amell‘s Green Arrow and Grant Gustin‘s Flash get a well-deserved promotion to the two-part Justice League film coming up in 2017 and 2018. Still, corporate synergy knows a good opportunity when it’s looking at it in the face, so when the DC Comics heroes return to TV in the new year, they will have a special sneak preview of Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and all the assorted movie characters that the TV universe can aspire to but will never be allowed to join. Is there any act harder to follow than Heath Ledger’s Joker? A role so iconic that it has seemed to define a generation of Batman fans and solidified what the Clown Prince of Crime should be. Jared Leto certainly has some very large clown shoes to fill, indeed. (more…)
