We like to think that it’s a nerds’ world at the movies, and certainly there’s been a lot of press in the last few years to back that up, but in 2012 it seemed especially true.
Developing a Top 10 List of the best of the nerdiest films this year was no easy feat, even with high-profile disappointments like Prometheus, John Carter, and The Amazing Spider-Man, but we were still able to do it. Some of these titles maybe obvious, but they all have one thing in common, they prove that in the genres of sci-fi, horror, fantasy and action, the year 2012 was far from the end of the world. Cinematically speaking, at least.
We reported last month that Prometheus screenwriter Damon Lindelof had been brought on board the troubled production of World War Z in order to pen a better ending to the film. Well it seems that Lindelof subcontracted the job to fellow Lost writing room alum and The Cabin in the Woods co-screenwriter/director Drew Goddard.
Deadline is reporting that timing was the issue for Lindelof, while he “cracked a potential new ending of the film,” it was Goddard that did the bulk of the actual writing. Apparently, now both men have done their work on the script and are moving on to different projects, so a third screenwriter may now step in to “punch up” the ending to make it filmable.
Deadline is putting money on Christopher McQuarrie, who recently adapted and directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, being the one Paramount will tap. However, McQuarrie may have his hands full already doing rewrites on Cruise’s next blockbuster, Doug Liman’s All You Need Is Kill.
The reshoots all this re-writing is being prepped for have yet to be scheduled, but Deadline says that embattled director Marc Foster will be behind the camera for them. Reshoots need to happen soon because the film is scheduled for release on June 21st, 2013.
Hey everyone, “lets” look at Joss Whedon’s other movies. NO, you say? You only care about The Avengers? Fine, be that way. I guess I’ll be the only one watching Whedon turn the horror genre on its ass! I’m forever alone anyway, so…
Lionsgate has released it’s first television commercial for Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon‘s upcoming horror film The Cabin in the Woods.
Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes “The Cabin in the Woods” a mind-blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out. Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.

So, Evil Dead meets Portal. Joss Whedon, you’ve done it again! This looks incredible.
The Cabin in the Woods is set for April 13th release.
The eternally mysterious The Cabin in the Woods, the horror movie written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, finally has a trailer. Made back in 2009, MGM delayed it to convert it over to 3d and then, after MGM’s bankruptcy placed the movie in limbo for the past few years. Luckily Lionsgate as snapped it up and is preparing to finally release it. Starting a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth and includes Jesse Williams, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, and Richard Jenkins. Here’s the official synopsis:
Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen.
If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.
Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.
It sounds, and looks, like your standard ‘kids go to a cabin to bone and end up getting de-boned’ movie, however with Whedon writing and Goddard directing, we in for some surprises. You can check out the trailer after the jump.
So what do you get when mix a skinny Chris Hemsworth (Thor) with one of the coolest people on Angel, Amy Acker?CABIN IN THE WOODS mofo’s! It’s a type of cheesy horror flick by Joss Whedon and CloverfieldsDrew Goddard.
The Cabin in the Woods stars Hemsworth as a young professional who visits a quaint cabin in the woods with a group of friends and ends up scratching the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out.
Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard, the film is said to be wildly imaginative and intensely horrific, toying with every convention of its genre while at the same time raising the stakes exponentially.
Anyway, The Cabin in the Woods has debuted a new teaser poster at Ain’t It Cool News. I would assume, based on the poster, there’s an evil rubiks cube in the cabin.
I am proud to say that I have seen and read most of Joss Whedon‘s work and have never been disappointed. Except for maybe Dollhouse, but I choose not to acknowledge that. I’m confident this will live up to expectations.
The cast also includes Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Brian J. White, Amy Acker, Fran Kranz, and Jesse Williams. The Cabin in the Woods is scheduled for release on April 13, 2012.
