The Green Lantern

Marvel Studios introduced us to Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, and despite its lackluster box-office ticket sales it spotlighted new characters that would later make their way to film i.e: Emma Frost, Magneto, and Xavier. Recently there have been hushed whispers of a possible Deadpool film, but  it has been taking longer than usual to give a concrete affirmation that it will start filming in the near future. Ryan Reynolds, while promoting his upcoming film Safe House, was asked about the possibility of a sequel to The Green Lantern or a Deadpool feature film.

Here is what he had to say on both subjects:

On Deadpool:

“The script, I think, is fantastic. It has been developed even further in the last three months or so. The filmhas to be rated R, and it has to be done a certain way, it has to do all these things that I am sure can worrisome for the guys cutting the checks for it. So if it’s going to be done, it needs to be done right. It will actually have no connection to the one that was in Wolverine.”

On Green Lantern:

“I have no idea (On the chances of a second Green Lantern). Those movies have huge scale budgets and those kinds of thing. Working in budget world like that is not fun, because you have a lot of investment and outcome. But if we end up doing a Deadpool movie that could be a lot of fun. Having the opportunity to do it rated R would be the budget would have to be down enough where you can afford to take big risks and do most things that superhero movies can’t do yet.”

Ryan Reynolds has a point, when it comes to Deadpool,  if that film has any chance of hitting the big screen it has to be an R-rated film. If for any reason it is spun with a family-friendly theme, the film will have a bigger group of nerds pissed off compared to Green Lantern fans. We can all agree that after the first Green Lantern film there is no way they can salvage and rebuild the fandom they lost, but there is a possibility that Deadpool could bring in adult fans/readers to the series by making it into a blockbuster film.

The first screening of Martin Campbell‘s Green Lantern happened on Sunday night in Hollywood, and the early response so far has been very positive. Of course none of this offers any insightful criticism for the movie, just a lot of fanboy gushing about how excited they were to actually see a Green Lantern film.

Read some tweets and quotes below.

Robert Meyer Burnett (director of Free Enterprise) on Twitter: GREEN LANTERN fucking ROCKED. The 3D was AWESOME. As a lifelong DC fan, the opening ten minutes made me squeal like schoolgirl. … Believe it. The first ten minutes will make you believe. The 3D is also outstanding. … GREEN LANTERN was terrific fun. The fact that it works at all is a miracle, but it really does cook. The first ten minutes sold me. … The 3D in the opening ten minutes is wonderful. But YOU MUST see it with polarized glasses. The color is great. … It’s not campy at all. The humor is earned. And Mark Strong as Sinestro was AWESOME. … I LOVED GREEN LANTERN. Don’t know why, but it kinda’ felt like THE LAST STARFIGHTER. I know…”Huh?!? What?!?” … it really did feel like an 80′s movie, circa ’84… Weird. … BTW…In LexG parlance…Blake Lively…LOOK AT HER. SMOOOOOKING hot.

Natasha Eloi (Space Channel) on Twitter:  ”So-Frakking-Un-Believable!!! I’m still spinning w/ delight & utter fangirl satisfaction!! #GREENLANTERN IS GO!!!” … #GREENLANTERNCORP be sure to stay until the end of the 1st credit roll for the BIG PAYOFF!! U won’t be disappointed!! …. Torn between #MarkStrong as #Sinestro#RyanReynolds as #GreenLantern on who rocked more! Hmm? Think we have a tie. Better be a sequel;)

David A. Arnold (comedian) on Twitter: Just saw Green Lantern…GOOD SHIT!

Trey Alexander (Fandango.com) on Twitter: “Just saw Green Lantern. Interview the cast tomorrow. Blake Lively is so hot. Ryan Reynolds is perfect. Great mix of humor, action & drama.”

Ashley Williams (Good Day Sacramento) on Twitter: “Just saw Green Lantern…amaz!”

Renee Bargh (Australian EXTRA) on Twitter: “Just Saw my 3rd movie for the weekend ‘The Green Lantern.’ Blake Lively looked Smokin as a brunette and Ryan didn’t look too bad either ;)”

Every comic book movie this summer has gotten really positive “early praise” and then not lived up to it. I’m going to assume this movie is terrible just so it might for once exceed my expectations.

Green Lantern Extended TV Spot

Last night during 30 Rock and American Idol Warner Bros. premiered a new TV spot for Green Lantern, which is pretty much a condensed version of the WonderCon footage that was recently released. Wondercon trailer was better. Though, this does show a bit more footage of the the cosmic side of the story. More of Tomar-Re, the fished faced vagina head. More of Oa, it’s where leprechauns are from (assuming). Lastly, we get to see more of the films main villain Parallax, the evil yellow ex-lax of fear.

Synopsis:

Hal Jordan is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris, if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Green Lantern hits on June 17. Martin Campbell directs; it stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Temuera Morrison, Jay O. Sanders, Taika Waititi and Jon Tenney, and the voices of Geoffrey Rush and Michael Clarke Duncan.

matthew goode

Working with Zack Snyder really pays off, at least in the case of Matthew Goode. Goode, who played Ozymandias in Snyder’s Watchmen is now in the running to play bumbling reporter Clark Kent in his reboot of Superman.  I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty excited about the low-key British actor playing the role!  Clearly, Jon Hamm is too old for the role and I wouldn’t see the fucking thing if they recast Brandon Routh, even though he looked the part (he just didn’t do it for me).

Another nice thing about Goode being considered for the project is that since Snyder plans on relying mainly on CGI for the suit (just like The Green Lantern) this means that Goode wouldn’t haven’t to “beef up” for the part.  And I’ve gotta this guy definitely seems like a “good” fit.

In other “Man of Steel” news, next month Mattel will be releasing a 12″ Christopher Reeves Movie Masters Action Figure!  The figure will have a cloth-like replica from the suit in the movie, as well as a more muscular build.  The action figure will also consist of interchangeable hands, one for flight and one for punching.  Also included is a piece of the Fortress of Solitude with removal crystals.  The Superman action figure is the first figure being released in a series.  Next to follow will be General Zod on December 15th and a Lex Luthor as portrayed by Gene Hackman.  It seems like no matter how old, we get we never outgrow sweet toys like this and going for only 60 bucks we can add it to our bookshelves in no time!  Check out pics of the action figure after the jump!

Green Lantern’s Kilowog Revealed

Green Lantern Kilowog

Hey Bastards, guess what? Warner Bros. upcoming Green Lantern film has just recently wrapped principle photography in New Orleans. As the cast and crew celebrate with hookers and cupcakes (I’m guessing) what does that mean for us? Well, nothing. It just means after the hookers and cupcakes (Dude, I so have to host one of those parties) the director and crew will now return to Los Angeles to start the the long post production process.Yep, that’s it.

What? Is that news not exciting enough for you? Fine. Here’s a first look at Kilowog.

What the fuck is a Kilowog? Well, in short he’s a big brute of an alien that is member and trainer of the Green Lantern Corps. (league of alien races that each wear a magical ring and defend the universe, an intergalactic police force…or something). He also likes hookers and cupcakes…and puppies (I may have made that part up). According to Comic Book Movie the image above comes straight from the art department. You may remember some concept art for the character popping up online earlier this year, but it appears that he’s undergone a few changes since. His skin, which appeared gray in the first image, now actually has some hue and the shape of his mouth has changed considerably. Upon further inspection I can for say certain that he has an uncanny resemblance to this bizarre growth I have on my left testicle (I should get that checked out). The tumor on my nut not withstanding it should be no surprise that Kilowog is and will be %100 CGI. And, from what we the hear the same goes for the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. To what degree will Kilowog and other members of the corps. have in the movie? I have no idea. If I were to guess, there will probably be some scene ala “Men in Black” wear Hal Jordan (The Green Lantern) is taken to the Green Lantern Corps head quarters and we seem him pass all the goofy looking aliens. Of course, in the comics Kilowog did train a young Hal Jordon. So, he could have a pretty prominent role. Will know more in time.

For now have a full look at my ballsack cancer Kilowog after the jump. Along with the concept art, as well as a look at the character as he was drawn in the comics.
