The Predator

In Hollywood, there is no try. There’s do (and fail), fail (and do) until something, anything inevitably sticks with moviegoers, breathing new life into a thirty-year-old series in desperate need of reinvention, The Predator, co-written and directed by Shane Black (The Nice Guys, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), proves what 20th Century Fox executives should have known – or maybe they’ve known all along – the Predator series should never have been a series. It should have stopped at one. The Predator was – and continues to be – near impossible to beat, let alone match, the combo of peak Arnold, ace action-director John McTiernan (Die Hard), and a dreadlocked, crab-faced, spine-ripping alien hunter caught up in jungle-set, deadly game of hide-and-seek. Bigger, faster, and armed with super-advanced tech, the Predator bloodily dispatched well-armed (in every sense) mercs, but proved no match for the former Mr. Universe (a/k/a, the Austrian Oak). Arnold, however, smartly stayed away from every sequel or spin-off greenlit by Fox in the misguided hope they could capture the magic of the original. They couldn’t and they haven’t. (more…)

We’ve all wondered, and now we know! Once, 20th Century Fox expected to release three X-Men films in the calendar year 2016, but there only ended up being two, and at least one of them was a massive box office success. That was Deadpool of course, and long have we waited on news of when we might actually see it’s sequel. Now, we finally know: 2018! And because this is Fox we’re talking about, not only are we going to get another Deadpool next year, we’re going to be getting two other X-Men movies too, and before you ask, one of them isn’t Gambit(more…)

Ever since it was announced that Shane Black was directing a new film in The Predator franchise, there was a little confusion if this was going to be a reboot of the franchise or a sequel to the second film. After a little bit of clarification, it’s sort of both. The Predator will in a way, “reboot” the franchise (and make us collectively forget those Alien Vs Predator films) and will be a sequel to the original 1987 film. With it being story wise, connected to the original film, this led many fans to wonder if Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer would make a return, having been the sole survivor of the Yautja’s hunting of his special forces group in Central America. It could be a great connective tissue to bridge the old film and the new one. However, it looks like, that’s not going to happen.

Somewhere, a new chapter of a beloved franchise is now taking its first steps into being revitalized. After years of talk, The Predator has begun production under the direction of Shane Black, a man who knows Predator because he was killed by one in 1987. Black’s Predator has been a topic of much conversation, and much rumour mongering, but we still don’t know much about it, but the first day of production has yielded the revelation that the cast that Black has brought together is 100 per cent certifiably bad ass. Revealed via Twitter, Black’s crew is ready to fight a powerful alien, but which ones will live to tell about it? (more…)

Shane Black’s Predator reboot/sequel, The Predator continues to grow an impressive cast as it is preparing to go into production next month. Already, the quasi-sequel to Predator and Predator 2 has the following actors associated with the project: Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu, Key and Peele), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), and most recently, Sterling K. Brown (The People vs OJ Simpson, This Is Us, Black Panther). It Looks like the suburban-based alien film is adding yet another actor to the film.

What a year for Sterling K. Brown! He had a key role as Christopher Darden in The People VS O.J. Simpson, he co-stars in the biggest new series on broadcast TV This Is Us, and he was recently cast in a secretive new part for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Black Panther. When you’ve got this kind of momentum in Hollywood you’ve just got to keep going, so it’s understandable that Brown might want to add another franchise to his resume. So now, following in the footsteps of Darden, Brown is committing to chasing down another killer… from outer space! The Predator. (more…)

Olivia Munn sure is making a name for herself around Hollywood. This once famous co-host of Attack of The Show has been landing some pretty cush acting gigs. After a break-out role in The Newsroom, she hustled her way in Kevin Hart’s Ride Along 2 just before boarding the cast of  X-Men: Apocalypse – playing the butt-kicking femme fatale Psylocke. And now, this actress/model/self-professed geeky gal, has earned herself into another huge IP. She’s hopped onto Shane Black‘s Predator reboot-quel.  (more…)

Many people are looking forward to Shane Black‘s upcoming half-sequel/half-reboot of Predator, called simply The Predator, and why not? Black is an accomplished writer and director with a cult following, he knows action, and he even appeared as Hawkins in the original film. We know that Narcos star Boyd Holbrook is now likely to be the leading man in the film, and we know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is likely to return in some capacity as Dutch, but in talking much more broadly about the film, Black had music for fans’ ears. His Predator will be scary, funny, and absolutely R-rated! (more…)

When it comes to the Predator film series, the star has always been the titular alien hunter who’s constantly on the look out for the most dangerous game of all. Having said that, the Predator has chased a wide variety of game on the big screen, from the preternaturally strong Arnold Schwarzenegger in the first Predator, to the somewhat more average Danny Glover in Predator 2, to Adrien Brody with a big freakin’ gun in Predators. But if the following news is true then the Predator is really about to meet his human match for the upcoming Shane Black sequel The Predator. (more…)
