the prison

Sarah just posted a look at today’s Walking Dead panel, but the one thing that was missing was the actual footage shown to attendees — well, a lot can change in a few moments. Here is the FULL trailer for The Walking Dead season three that JUST broke out on the net, complete with the prison, the Governor, Michonne, and more than a few surprises. The best surprise of all? We get to see it without watching a reality show about redneck rent-a-cops.

The next issue of Entertainment Weekly will have a sneak preview of The Walking Dead‘s third season, including these two new images which give us our first look at the prison. And Maggie (Lauren Cohan) being a total, badass muthafucka.

Whether you’ve read the comics or not, you know the prison is a big deal. All it took was the collective fanboy skeet heard ’round the web when the prison was seen off in the distance during last season’s finale to clue you in. It’s – a – big – deal. And from the looks of intensity on the actors’ faces as they clear out the zombies, the prison will not disappoint. Those who felt the zombies were lacking in season two. Never fear.

Showrunner Glen Mazzara has this to add,

I’m incredibly proud of the prison. I think our crew has done a great job. It’s a huge sense of scale and magnitude I haven’t seen on any other show as far as construction. What’s important to us is the prison itself is now a character in the show. It’s a haunted house, it’s scary, it’s frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group. It’s not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be.

And the thing is, when it comes to the comic, I don’t know if I would call their time in the prison a “blessing.” Hearing it’ll be even less hospitable in the show, well shit, things are going to be nuts!

The Walking Dead returns to AMC this October. On a scale of 1 to Maggie’s Intense Zombie Killin’ Face, how pumped are you for the show’s return?
