Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy

worldsendnewposter2

I know I’ve said it before, but behind all the big superhero and sci-fi blockbusters releasing this summer, my number one pick for movie I most desperately need to see is The World’s End. The final chapter of Edgar Wright, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg‘s Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy – Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz comprising the first two slots – releases in the U.S. on August 23rd, which is an agonizing month after it releases in the U.K. on July 19th. Those limey bastards. First Iron Man 3, then Star Trek Into Darkness, now The World’s End!? How come they’re getting all the movies first!? I mean, sure, at least this one’s their movie, but way to rub salt in the wound by making us wait another month!

Believe me, you’ll feel my pain once you watch the full trailer.

Synopsis

In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

The flick also stars Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike. Again, releasing in August, how badly do you want to see it?

In a year absolutely stacked with big movies – Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, Man of Steel, The WolverineEdgar Wright and Simon Pegg‘s finale to their Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy may just be the one I’m most excited for. It’s a guarantee they’ll deliver, I’ve not doubt. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two of my all time favorite movies so I’m dying to see how they’re going to top ’em.

Below you’ll find a compilation trailer with snippets of almost every movie releasing this summer, and within this mess of clips there’s two very short peeks at The World’s End. Seriously, blink and you’ll miss it.

Bleeding Cool managed to grab two screen caps of those quick moments so you can get better look. They’re below the cut.

Their brilliant TV show Spaced was a U.K. hit, but most of the U.S. and the rest of the world was first introduced to Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright when their homage to zombie films, Shaun of the Dead, blasted into the nerdosphere. They followed that up with an homage to action films called Hot Fuzz and swore another film would follow.  Well, in the four years since Hott Fuz it looks like Wright, Pegg and Frost are finally working on the conclusion to the trilogy, lovingly referred to as either the “Blood and Ice Cream” or “Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy.”

Edgar Wright posted the above image, on Twitter today saying only “Hard at work…”

What is The World’s End about? I have no idea. I don’t think Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have any idea either, but hey, at least they’re men at work. I would assume though, that with the first two flavors being Horror then Action, the third must be Sci-Fi.

With the exception of The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers, The World’s End has now jumped my list for most anticipated movie.
