Thundercats Reboot

Cartoon Network has aired a new promo trailer for the upcoming Thundercats animated reboot. We also have a 9-minute preview clip from the series.

Considering how much we idolize the original cartoon, word on this reboot pushed a lot of us in the “DO NOT WANT” mind set, while the rest were left feeling cautiously optimistic. For the most part, cartoons today suck cat scrotum (Minus Ben 10, Adventure Time..etc). ThunderCats 2011 was a tough sell. Now, while we haven’t seen a full episode yet, I think the trailers leading up to the July 29th release, along with this new 9 preview have shut us naysers up. Beyond the nostaglia factor, this newly revised series will surely hold the attention of veteran viewers. It looks to be much more mature and interesting than it’s 80’s counterpart. Even the Anime style animation is pretty spiffy, which was something I was iffy about early on.

It all comes down to how the first couple of episode will play out, but considering what we’ve seen thus far, I think we can stroke our chins with satisfaction.

“Thundercats! Hoooo!”

9 Minute Preview featuring various cut clips:

Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, ‘ThunderCats’ characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

The new ‘ThunderCats’ will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.

MORE Thundercats TV Reboot News

There’s finally some more news on the big Thundercats reboot based on the popular animated series from the 80’s that we heard about a while back.  Recently, Michael Jelenic producer on Batman: The Brave and the Bold and writer of the upcoming Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam animated short) had this to say about the project,

“One thing is that I tried to simplify the mythology a little bit,”  “It’s a pretty complicated backstory that borrows from a lot of other sci-fi stuff, like Superman and Star Wars. In developing this, I wanted it to be a little more simple. In the other version, there’s something like three different planets involved, and they all converge onto one planet, and nobody’s really connected. I just wanted to bring that all together.”

I for one, think this is a brilliant idea.  When things like this are less complex in tends to bring in a whole new audience and expand the show to a whole new group of people.  That, more than anything else is usually the point of a reboot in the first place.

Jelenic also added,

“Everyone always wants to know about Snarf. … He will be in it, and he will not talk. Don’t worry. He won’t be going, ‘Lion-O, why don’t you do this?’ It’s funny, because people are always like, ‘I hate Snarf! Wait, you’re not going to put him in? That’s terrible!'”

Again I have to say that this also is a pretty smart idea.  Having a character like that can definitely make viewers stray from the show and luckily Jelenic has now eliminated that problem but has also kept a pivotal chracter.

In addition to keeping Snarf around the show will also be animated by the same Japanese company who did the Animatrix.  The Thundercats reboot will be hitting Cartoon Network in 2011.   So what do you guys think about these new tid bits of info??
