HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’ and ‘Deadpool’ star T.J. Miller has been added to the cast of ‘Ready Player One,’ Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the action-packed, sci-fi novel by Ernest Cline. In the Warner Bros./Village Roadshow produced film, Miller will take on the role of i-R0k, an online troll who searches and monitors the online forums of the wildly popular virtual reality MMO game Oasis. When the internet got it’s first look at Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse in the villains eponymous X-Men movie, well let’s say it was less than kind. Yes, we all know he bore an uncanny resemblance to a certain oozy purple Power Ranger villain and yes it was kind of rough seeing the big budget Hollywood blockbuster costume pale in comparison to some great, source clinging cosplay. Well, maybe that’s not his final form?

One of the most fascinating and frustrating things about the X-Men film series has been the casting. On the one hand they nailed it by recruiting actors like Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen to play Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto respectively, but then fall flat bringing on Halle Berry to play Storm. I will submit that it may not be entirely Berry’s fault, and suggest that Storm never had much of a beefy role in the franchise (did she say more than three lines in Days of Future Past?), but through the glories of time travel, the X-Men franchise is looking to correct past mistakes (or missteps). Bryan Singer has announced the latest additions of the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse, the new and younger versions of Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey. (more…)
