Psych,  is an American comedy/drama mystery television series, about a man who works for the Santa Barbra Police Department as their resident psychic. The only hitch is that Shawn Spence (James Roday) isn’t really a psychic, he just relies on his highly tuned sense of observation to solve mysteries. With his best friend Burton “Gus” Guster (Dule Hill) and his father Henry (Corbin Bernson) the series has lasted into it’s 6th season, keen senses and all. It’s one of my favorite shows!  It somehow combines youthful thirty-ish banter between buddies with Monk-ish sleuthing. The witty jokes, sharp dialog and endless obscure 80′s references make it a real delight.

So, I have a nerdy giveaway I would love to share with you, surrounding the premier of Psych Season 6.5 on the USA Network, on Leap Day, 2/29. There will be one grand prize winner of a Psych Arcade (pictured below) and the three runner-ups win signed Season 5 Psych DVDs!

powers comic

FX, the network that’s brought us shows like Nip/Tuck is putting together a pilot episode of a series called Powers based on the comics by Brian Michael Bendis.  Bendis’ work speak for itself as he is a verified badass in the comic world working for Marvel and giving us material like The New Avengers.

It has been a long long journey to FX for Powers, the little comic that could.  It was originally bought by Sony ten years ago and meant for the big screen; however, a year ago it was pitched by Bendis and Kevin Falls (Journeyman) to FX over a year ago.

Here’s a little background for those of you who don’t know the comic,

Bendis’ series takes place in a universe where superpowers are somewhat unusual, but not uncommon. The protagonist is Christian Walker, a superhero turned homicide detective. Along with his partner Deena Pilgrim, he solves murder cases involving “powers,” or people with superpowers.

So basically this is pretty much X-Files but with superpowers instead of aliens.

As far as the show is concerned it couldn’t ask to be handled by better hands than that of Michael Dinner. Dinner besides having a last name that makes me hungry is responsible for FX’s hit shows like Sons of Anarchy and the networks’ newer but none the less awesome show Justified.

What I like about this idea is that it’s going to an edgy network which means no corners will be cut when it comes to pushing limits on the show.  This also means the show will looks cool and prbably have a lot of curse words, gratuitous violence and nudity.  (yay??)

What I don’t like is that the concept sounds kinds of contrived and there are enough cop/detective type shows on tv already so how will this project be any different??  But I mean if USA can keep it shows running then Powers has a good shot at getting on the air.  What do you guys think??
