Last year Game of Thrones ended its first season with dragons, a booming declaration that the show’s ambition was only going to grow as it moved forward. After a second season full of more characters, bigger storylines and deeper, darker themes, it would take a lot to make things even bigger. With “Valar Morghulis,” the show does just that, reaffirming its place as the biggest series on television, and knocking us flat right before the long wait for season three.
Shocking news, guys: Game of Thrones is a big deal. Don’t know if you aware of this or not, but besides being one of the most watched shows on HBO it’s also the most pirated show of the year. Meaning, EVERYONE is watching, and HBO is about to make EVERYONE really, really happy. The much anticipated season finale airing on Sunday will be an extra ten minutes long.
Yeah, yeah, ten minute might not sound like much but tell me, every week when the credits begin to roll all you’re craving is more, right? They’re giving us more! Sure, it’ll mostly be tantalizing cliff hangers that will drive us wild until the series returns next April, but it’s ten more minutes of some of the best television, ever.
The finale, “Valar Morghulis” will have a runtime of 64 minutes as opposed to the usual 54-55 minute episode. Make sure your DVR is set to record those extra minutes or you’ll hate yourself come Monday morning.
Check out a preview of next week’s climactic finale below, and make sure you catch up on all of Nerd Bastards’ season two reviews, particularly the one for “Blackwater.” Did you watch the latest episode? Wasn’t it insane?! I don’t know how they’re going to top it this week, but I’m confidant they will.
