Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

If you’re old enough to remember the release of The Fifth Element, you might recall that the previous sci-fi opus from French director Luc Beeson was not exactly a universal success. Like a lot of movies with a distinctive voice, it took awhile for The Fifth Element to find an audience, but its an enthusiastic audience and Beeson’s original work now has, at the very least, a cult following. It’s worth keeping that in mind as you watch the latest trailer for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, a visual feast for the eyes, but bound to have a very distinct appeal.  (more…)


San Diego Comic Con came and went this year, and a lot of people were most excited about what they saw regarding comic book adaptations like Wonder Woman, Doctor Strange, Justice League, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But there was another comic book adaptation that kind of got buried by the hype, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. This one should have nerds everywhere very excited, especially if they were fans of 1997’s The Fifth Element because Valerian represents director Luc Beeson‘s first deep dive into space opera since that movie almost 20 years ago. Now, the teaser trailer gives us even more of a reason to be excited. (more…)
