I know, you were just so excited to see a Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer, and you are so stoked for the return of Michael Bay to this franchise because everything he touches is 360 degrees of awesome. You were so blinded by the joy that you can be forgiven for missing a pretty prominent bit of viral promotion, a little Easter egg that fans can have some fun with as we eagerly await the release of Age of Extinction this summer. Last week was the big premiere of the first Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer. We’ve all seen plenty of screen shots at this point, but finally we have something that’s actually moving around to look at. What’s more, it appears that the makers of the new flick have given us an Easter egg to look for in the trailer as well. The folks over at SuperHeroHype found something interesting lurking in the background. (more…)

As the year ends, the time has come for a Trailer-pocalypse, meaning that were in a time of tremendous trailer releases in order to get us excited about big-budget studio offerings next summer. Next up is Gareth Edwards‘ attempt to Americanize Godzilla, and producing partners Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are saying that we’ll all get our first look at the trailer soon. As in tomorrow! Like around 1 pm on the east coast, 10 am on the west. Can’t wait that long for something Godzilla-ish? That’s fine, the Powers that Be have thought of that too. (more…)

shit-nerds-never-sayRemember when that viral video/meme about the “Shit ______ Never Say” was making the rounds? That is not a rhetorical question, the speed of the internet has rotted my brain away to the point where I don’t know if it was last month or sometime shortly after penicillin was discovered.

Regardless, it is old, outdated and therefore no long funny, right? WRONG. This past weekend Filmmaker Bill Scurry took to New York Comic-Con to breath new life into the long dead burnout husk of a joke with some rather amusing (and telling results.) The Next 60 seconds hits pretty close to home with ‘Shit Nerds Never Say‘ from con attendees including the most convincing Lloyd Kaufman of Troma fame cosplay I have ever seen. I defy you to disagree with Scurry’s findings. Video up after the jump. (more…)

Kick-Ass_viral promotion

Admit it, at some time or another you’ve all wanted to be a hero. Now you can put all those years of aspirations and training in your bedroom to good use, because, Kick-Ass and Justice Forever need your help! Sort of.

Now that Jim Carrey has stepped back from the promotion of Kick-Ass 2, Universal Pictures needs another way to help promote their comic book adapted movie. And the solution is simple: a viral video of campaign (probably made before Carrey stepped back) featuring Kick-Ass 2 star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kick-Ass recruiting you into the super group Justice Forever. Check it out it the video below.

That’s it? 19 seconds of Kick-Ass  trying to convince you to become a hero? Well, just tell me where to send the non-existent self-addressed envelope with my parents money jammed inside and sign me up! In all seriousness, though, it’s a funny little video and a nice way to promote Kick-Ass 2 even without the support of one of the films biggest stars. Although, if they’re doing one for Justice Forever, how long until we’re seeing Christopher Mintz-Plasse in his Mother Fucker persona promoting the Toxic Mega-Cunts? Maybe very soon.

Kick-Ass 2 is in theaters everywhere August 16th.

Over the weekend, we posted a  grainy seven second clip for ABC and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.  The spot featured, what appeared to be, The Hulk smashing a car from a distance. We’ve discovered this the start of a viral marketing campaign for the Marvel television series involving a yet unknown group called Rising Tide.

By heading over to www.wearetherisingtide.com, viewers are given an insight into a group of conspiracy theorists hoping to prove the existence of S.H.I.E.L.D. It won’t be easy, seeing as over the entirety of the Marvel film universe, S.H.I.E.L.D. has maintained a state of anonymity. That doesn’t appear to shake this group of individuals judging by their mantra posted on the site:

WHO IS S.H.I.E.L.D.? WHAT ARE THEY HIDING? SUPER-POWERS ARE REAL. ALIENS EXIST. WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE? WE WILL UNCOVER THE TRUTH. WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT ANY LONGER.

Included on the site is the once removed Youtube clip, along with several other clips. There are connections to the first and second Iron Man movies, as well as The Incredible Hulk, but others are clips completely new to us. Even with Rising Tide’s counterproductive footage, seeing as everyone knows about Iron Man, gamma monsters and Asgardians, the group still believes that S.H.I.E.L.D. is hiding more they let on. Guess we’ll find out more once Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts later this year, but for now take a look at videos currently posted on www.wearetherisingtide.com.

Does it feel as if there’s been an explosion of Star Trek Into Darkness promotional material? It was quiet for so long with only a teaser or maybe an international trailer, and now, BOOM! There’s clips, viral videos, featurettes; you name it there’s one promoting Into Darkness. Today’s latest is another of the “Disruption” viral videos from John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) in where he examines communications officer, Lt. Uhura (Zoe Saldana). And more importantly, the video provides our very first look at the new design of the Klingons,

Did you catch it? If not, hit the jump for a screencap providing a better, clearer look at the unmasked Klingon,

The release of the G.I. Joe sequel, G.I. Joe Retaliation is just under two months away.  With the big delay that the movie saw last year, they’re looking to step up their marketing and perhaps bring back some of those who’ve lost interest since then.  So to do that, they’ve got a new viral marketing campaign put together.  Check out the video below to see how you can join up with Cobra and prove your loyalty to the bad guys.

If you head over to the Cobra Special Forces website, you’ll find some downloadable content as well as a listing of events that are apparently pro-Cobra.  Most of these are things like sporting events and concerts and, to tell the truth, I’ve no idea what attending one will get you.  Maybe a free ticket?  Probably not…

So join the cause of evil!  Or just wait around until March 29th and watch the film instead.

Thanks to /film for the heads-up.
