Over the weekend, 20th Century Fox made a play for some major box office real estate by announcing release dates for the next three X-Men films, and the future slate of Avatar sequels. Disney does not like to be outdone, it seems. Today, Disney has announced a slew of new release date and release date changes from some of its major properties including key animated sequels, the live action adaptation of Disney classics, and, of course, new films from its Lucasfilm subdivision.  (more…)


“Happy New Year!” is a phrase that has even more significance at the Walt Disney Company as they celebrate a crushing year at the box office with a number of new successes. First, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has officially surpassed Captain America: Civil War to become the second biggest movie of 2016. Second, Rogue One has now collected four-fifths of a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. And thirdly, Disney itself officially crossed the $3 billion mark to have the biggest year of any studio in the history of movies. In other words, this is a good day to be a Disney stockholder. Given today’s precarious job market it may be quite incomprehensible for young people to think that they could be at one company for three-quarters of a century. It’s not impossible, you just would have had to be hired in 1941. Like Stan Lee. Lee is well-known for creating the entire Marvel Universe as we know it in the 1960s, but his career at Marvel – and it’s various previous identities – goes all the way back to the 1940s. The Walt Disney Company took time out recently to remember that, and remember the long career of the man that made the company they now proudly own. (more…)


Somewhere between The Lion King and Chicken Little, Disney Animation decided it was going to get more multicultural. There was Pocahontas which featured Native Americans, The Hunchback of Notre Dame where the love interest was Romani, and there was Mulan which was an adaptation of a Chinese legend. Which one of these things is about to get a live-action remake? Well, if you read the headline for this article, then you know it’s Mulan, and Disney is putting it on the fast track to join its ever growing menagerie of live-action remakes of classic Disney films.
