Nothing can remain secret in the entertainment industry anymore. Seems more and more people are paying attention to trademark registrations at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Seems Blizzard Entertainment has registered a “goods and service” trademark for a popular game that could send fans into a frenzy. For years fans have clamored for Blizzard to get into making their own CGI animation. Love or hate the games, there’s no denying that their CGI is top-notch and their shorts and trailers are nothing short of jaw-dropping in terms of quality and storytelling. But will this next endeavor endear fans or ruffle feathers?

While it is hard to get any kind of expectations up for a video game related movie, having Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) in the directors chair for Warcraft raised the bar on what people were expecting. Unfortunately, or fortunately as the case may be for the studios bottom line, Warcraft only matched those expectations in China. US moviegoers bailed on the whole thing only shelling out $47 million at theaters on a big budget movie with a $160 million dollar budget. Worldwide the movie took in $386 million, mostly from China, saving Universal from a huge loss. Now we’ve got the Honest Trailer on Warcraft and as one would expect, the movie takes a Rocky like beating. (more…)

In regards to film adaptations, video games have been the toughest to crack.  For the most part, we have been raised making our own films when we play the games ourselves.  Playing unbeatable levels gives us more drama and excitement than most film adaptation have even been able to give us.  Since the 1990s, the Warcraft video games have released more than a dozen strategy-based Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) that have entertained us through the years, so it’s a no-brainer that they would try to adapt this as a film.  With the popularity of not only the game, but fantasy films increasing through the years, it would seem like the right time to make an adaptation, so Legendary Pictures gives us Warcraft.  The film is directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), so the sci-fi credentials are there. Unfortunately, the film never really “gets it right” and is best described as a missed opportunity. (more…)

Seemingly straight out of Orgrimmar, actress Jamie Lee Curtis arrived in Orc cosplay to last night’s premiere of Duncan Jones‘ fantasy flick Warcraft! Curtis schmoozed with cast members and fans of the film alike, posing for pictures and recording videos- including a pretty impressive nod to “Leroooooy Jenkins!” Her look came off a little more Malificent than Orc, maybe a brow piece or some big bottom teeth pieces would’ve been a bit more accurate. But this fangirl is no stranger to cosplay fun! (more…)

Captain America: Civil War looks to be the film that has officially kicked off the 2016 summer movie season. Sequels, just like the previously mentioned Marvel flick, will dominate the next few months. People are anticipating such follow-ups as X-Men: Apocalypse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, The Conjuring 2, Now You See Me 2, Finding Dory, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Purge: Election Year, Ghostbusters, Star Trek Beyond, Ice Age: Collision Course, and Jason Bourne. But the film coming out this June has been a long time coming for gamers… Warcraft(more…)

To fuel the desire for Legendary’s upcoming Warcraft movie, eight new movie posters have now appeared on our horizon. Coming out June 10th, 2016 this film takes place during the First War between Humans and Orks. Set during the reign of Llane Wyrnn 1, father of Varian Wyrnn, it aims to be an origin story for a whole movie franchise based on their popular World of Warcraft games. This movie might be the one to break the wall of horrible game movies and shine brightly, but until we know that for sure, many well-known figures from the game make their way center stage in new posters. New ‘Warcraft’ TV Spot Promises More PvP Action

Honestly, it’s strange that Blizzard didn’t try this sooner. World Of Warcraft is the leading MMORPG of our times, sporting a fanbase of millions of nerds who have devoted impossibly long hours into the game and would probably buy every last bit of merchandise that the almighty vidyagame titan would squeeze out of it. In what seems to be a nice little gameplay reference, the lastest TV spot for the upcoming film seems to be focusing on the PvE side of things…

Remember 1993’s flop, Super Mario Bros.?  It seems Nintendo can’t seem to forget about it.  The film made back less than half what was spent to make it, starting a trend for video game film adaptations that would last until 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.  Movies based on video games have essentially been a laughing stock in Hollywood, and few studios want to risk making them.  This year may change all that.  Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed both come out in theaters later this year.  It seems actress and UFC fighter Ronda Rousey is eager for a Metroid movie to be made, and she wants to star in it as Samus Aran. The first full trailer for Legendary Pictures and director Duncan JonesWarcraft based on the Blizzard MMO World of Warcraft has hit the Internet as promised and it looks pretty damn good. Video game movies have a poor track record at the box office. Very few seem to break past the break even point and make any real Hollywood blockbuster type money. Will Warcraft break that tradition?
