After a long period of anticipation Disney has finally announced its mammoth streaming service, that will be rivaling giants such as Netflix & Amazon Prime Video. Due to hit North America in November of this year, can this century old powerhouse become one of the leaders of the not only the big screen, but the small screen too? (more…)
We’re drawing closer and closer to Marvel’s next big movie release: known colloquially to the fans as Avengers 2.5 due to the copious amounts of heroes being featured, Captain America: Civil War is sure to be action-packed from start to finish. Fans everywhere are already “picking sides” between Team Captain America and Team Iron Man, and previous trailers and promotional images have shown potential viewers which heroes are choosing to align themselves in either corner (no word yet on the preferred affiliations of Baby Groot, however). While we are rumored to get a new Civil War trailer this week, Marvel has already hit us with new stuff to fawn over: a deluge of new character posters featuring the characters who are affiliating with Cap himself. Maybe you’ve seen Ant-Man by now and have lingering questions about exactly what goes down in the mid-credits and post-credits scenes. Maybe you haven’t seen the film yet and would like some more knowledge to arm yourself with going in. Maybe you’re like me and have seen the movie twice already and just think it’s really, really good (in my review of Ant-Man, I mentioned that these two scenes exist, but kept it spoiler-free). Whatever the case, here’s some deeper info you might not know about the “secret” Ant-Man scenes – and it should go without saying here, but you’re entering MAJOR SPOILER TERRITORY, so consider yourself warned.
Captain America: Civil War! Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about one of the rumors about the first film in the next phase of Marvel‘s big screen development. We know that Daniel Bruhl was cast last year in Civil War, but the role he was cast to play was not revealed. On film, Bruhl has faced off against Thor actor Chris Hemsworth in Rush and future Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch in The Fifth Estate, but given that Bruhl is of German birth that seemed rather telling, but not necessarily conclusive. Now, a leak from a casting website seems to have answered the question for us, and it now appears that Bruhl will play Captain America’s second biggest adversary, Baron Zemo, in the forthcoming Civil War. Marvel has officially announced the casting of German actor Daniel Bruhl for an unspecified role in Captain America: Civil War. The actor – who is probably best known for his ambiguously endearing-but-nasty role as Frederick Zoller in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds – joins a cast that already boasts three superheroes. Captain America: Civil War has an impressive line-up, including Chris Evans’ Cap. America, Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, newcomer Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier. Unfortunately there is still no word on Frank Grillo’s involvement in the film as Crossbones. (more…)
Most out there have witnessed the critical tirade that is Honest Trailers. Brought to the world by Screen Junkies, this amusing series of YouTube videos takes the movies that we all know and love (and sometimes hate with a passion) and tear them into little pieces for all the stupid crap that the writers, producers and directors decided would make good cinema. And it appears as if the Screen Junkies crew has now achieved some sort of real power within the industry, for Anthony and Joe Russo are citing Honest Trailers as their litmus test when they co-wrote Captain America: The Winter Soldier. (more…)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier enjoyed a very successful run at the box office, and for good reason. The Marvel Studios movie was a very well written espionage flick that just happened to have a superhero or two at the center of the plot. More importantly, the movie was a game changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that revealed that absolutely no one could be trusted. SFX Magazine recently sat with the screenwriters of the hit sequel to find out where the series might go from here. If they get their wishes, there will be plenty of Marvel fans who will love the next Captain America entry. (more…)
With just a few short months to go before it’s scheduled to be released, it seems like a pretty bad time to going back and trying to fix things, but sure enough, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is going to be putting in some extra time this December and January for a couple of reshoots. (more…)
The epic fight is one piece of making a proper super hero flick that cannot be ignored. If the hero isn’t going to take down the bad guy in a way that is both creative and visually interesting, then the movie is missing something fundamental. When one works on a flick like Iron Man or Thor, there are all sorts of cool abilities and effects to play with. With someone like Captain America, however, it’s fists and a shield, so the challenge is high. Anthony and Joe Russo, the Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors, want to impress with this one and, to prove their confidence they showed off one of the action scenes from the movie at Disney’s D23 Expo.
Now here’s the part where we give you a video to watch, right? Nope. Sorry folks, but the Great Sith Mouse has yet to release it to the public. So instead, you’ll just have to settle for some opinions from a few people that were there. In addition to reporting a wild crowd reaction, the folks at /film had this to say:
Cap’s fighting techniques are way more modern than the last time we saw him. He’s learned new moves; the action in general is much more hard-hitting and intense.
And the MTV representatives added their two cents:
Just like the elevator sequence shown at Comic-Con, the clip featured action expertly directed by the Russo brothers that is clear, kinetic, and outrageously fun.
So, it looks like we may have something to look forward to next year. It’s always more difficult to use the fists and feet while still keeping it looking super heroic and the Russo boys may have gotten it right.
You can check it out for yourself when Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes to the big screen on April 4th, 2014.
Thanks to /film for the heads-up.
So you say you really, really need to know more about the latest in Marvel flicks? That you can’t survive without a few spoilers in your belly? Well, we got a few for you, courtesy of the Internet 100% reliable news circle. This time around, a few tidbits to whet your appetite regarding the upcoming Guardians and the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
First, a little bit about what to expect from Guardians –
It looks like the main baddie is going to be Ronan the Accuser. Thanos will supposedly be around, though his role is going to be tied to something larger and will likely carry on into the Marvel universe as a whole.
There will also be zero Avengers showing up in Guardians, so expect the flick to focus on these new heroes and not the old. Despite this absence of Avengers faces, it is confirmed that the time/space continuity will be the same as all previous films, so no worry about your brain being juggled.
Secondly, a few pieces of info. about The Winter Soldier –
Apparently, Winter Soldier will play a major role in bridging the story gap between Avengers and Avengers 2, though how this comes about remains to be seen. It also looks as if Black Widow will have a much larger role to play and the movie will take some time to delve into her back story, so good news for Widow fans.
And so ends another day of the Marvel rumormill. If this didn’t satisfy your appetite for information, check back daily. No doubt we’ll have something more for you soon enough.
Or just relax and wait until the movies actually come out to learn what you need to know. Guardians of the Galaxy arrives on August 1st, 2014 while Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be hitting screens on April 4th, 2014.
